I personally know two families in Vermont that have covered for their sons who has sexually offended their own family memberd and others young children as well. I want our goverment to charge families as assecories to their family members crimes against children and teens and their own family! The punishments for sex offenders need to be universal as well with a maximum sentence. Sex offenders do not deserve to get a light sentence, their victems have to deal with what has been done to them for the rest of their lives!

Stack on the false charges; prevent the ACCUSED from having access to much of the evidence; publish outlandish false accusations in the press and on TV; get the public all riled up; convince the ACCUSED that he'll do life without if he goes to trial... I know pleanty of people who have been accused of all sorts of crimes, they are ALL innocent until PROVEN guilty. Why do you want accused sex offenders to not be afforded the same rights as other accused people?? Going through a divorce and want custody for child support reasons maybe? If you remove the rights of people accused of one crime you open the door for these rights to be revoked for ALL accused people. And when DCS comes to steal YOUR kids, nobody will be left to stand up for you.

Castration is too mild a punishment for sex offenders. And the families who protected them should be punished too, either by way of enforced financial payments to the victims to pay for counselling, etc., or prison time as accomplices to the crimes.

The lives of many young girls have been brutally affected by sexual abuse by family members. I am personally aware of 3 girls who were abused by an uncle. This man was protected by his family members, with the obvious exception of the girls' parents. The family of the 3 girls was then shunned by the other family members because they brought the abuse to the public arena, via the court system. The girls suffer greatly but now live relatively normal lives, because of the great love, support and devotion their parents showed them by giving voice to their feelings and by ensuring that their daughters received the best professional care. Kudos to the parents and the girls. They are all very brave!

In the case of most crimes if a family harbors the offender or hinders an investigation they are charged as accessories to the crime, this should be the same for sex offenders. As, often, the abused is a member of said family the crime of hinderence is even more heinous. Please change the law so that these criminals can not be harbored by their families!

I was sexually abused as a child and my abuser was protected by the family and I was the one ostracized. This should not be allowed to happen!
