Ballot access regulations in the Texas Election Code make it difficult for voters who wish to elect their chosen candidates for President and other offices to vote for their particular choice. For instance (in the case of POTUS):
A candidate who is not nominated by one of the major parties cannot run as an independent in November.
If a third party wishes to be on the ballot, it must register in January and then in April it must get 43,992 people who did not vote in the primary to sign a petition.
If a candidate wants to mount a write-in campaign, s/he must register with the Secretary of State and also get letters from a vice-presidential candidate and 34 people who are willing to be electors. (The registration part applies to local races as well.) Anybody who does not register cannot have his ballots counted.
These hoops that people have to jump through are not only silly, but probably unconstitutional, and similar "Sore Loser" laws have been overturned by the courts in other states.
This should appeal to liberals and conservatives alike, as both have been victimized by it in the past.

We the undersigned would like to bring your attention to the so-called "Sore Loser" ballot regulations in Texas, which we believe disenfranchises a lot of people in this state.
As you see, our petition includes signers from other states and even from some foreign countries. We allowed this in order to show not only are the eyes of Texas upon us, but the eyes of the world are on Texas.
Please bring these regulations in line with the 21st century. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
We signed the "Stop "Sore Loser" ballot regulations in Texas " petition!

I feel it is against the principles of democracy to restrict access to being on the ballot to the major parties. Any political party with a few thousand members should be allowed onthe ballot.

We are a free people with the freedom of association. Anyone should be allowed to change his or her political affiliation without affect our freedom to vote for whom ever we want. This republic is in great danger of loosing its liberty. Please consider the consequences of a law like this, and why it should be overturned.

I hear it's easier to get on the Ballot in IRAQ the it is Oklahoma . Why?? Land of the free ? What about our freedom to chose or does that just apply to the demise of the unborn ?

I doubt that ever, in the history of Texas, was there ever a legitimate reason to concoct such a collection of artificial hurdles in order to disenfranchise voters. "Sore Loser" my foot! Give me and all of my fellow citizens the unfettered and uncomplicated right to vote for the candidate of my/our choice, and do it now!

The two major parties have adopted socialist policies and are attempting to barr any opposition to their monopoly. This petition is a first step in the right direction. Alan Keyes for president is the next step.

Americans should have a choice. The "sore loser" restrictions restrict not only the choices for Texans, but for other Americans as well.

Please change this law. I am sure there are many people in Texas who are dissatisfied with their party's nominee for president and who want to vote for a third party candidate, possibly even a candidate who did ran on a major party's ballot in the primaries. Thank you.

Election laws that inhibit our right to vote for who we want are unconstitutional.

If a group can garner enough signatures of voters who want to see their nominee be on the ballot, the trivial detail that their nominee could have been, but wasn't, chosen by another party seems an unreasonable reason to keep these other folks' choice off the ballot.

As a supporter of a less-known candidate for President, I do not appreciate the time and money required to get my candidate on the Novemeber ballot in Texas. I feel that I have been disenfranchised, and may take my appeal to Federal court.
