STOP: Teen Dating Violence

Whereas, 44% of all students have been in an abusive relationship by the time they graduate from college.

And, many students do not have the necessary information or experience to know what constitutes a healthy relationship.

We respectfully request that all states follow Texas' lead by passing legislation requiring their school districts to adopt formal policies regarding the education of Teen Dating Violence.

We the undersigned, believe that Teen Dating Violence is a national problem that will not go away on its own.

Students lack the necessary information to identify healthy relationships and need to be educated about how to identify an abusive relationship and where to seek help if necessary.

Schools are responsible for the education of our youth and are the best resource to ensure that all students receive this necessary information. We respectfully request that you support an initiative to require every school district in the state to adopt formal policies regarding Teen Dating Violence. Similar legislation was passed in Texas in 2007 and has been very well received. (HB 121)
