Report Animal Cruelty Related to the Beijing Olympics!

PLEASE WRITE YOUR LOCAL OR NATIONAL MEDIA!! NO ONE WILL PICK UP THIS STORY EVEN WITH THE SIGNATURES!! In the U.S. please go to this form to email cnn http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form5.cn.html

In March 2008, a story was reported that Beijing was rounding up cats and putting them in cages the size of microwave ovens where they are left to die, so that there are no stray cats on the streets during the Olympics. (Full article here http://tinyurl.com/2nag8s ).  Recently, international animal rights groups have met with the government in Beijing and have found no evidence of mass killings. However, a lot of questions remained unanswered and none of the newly developed cat pounds outside of Beijing were visited. ( Go here to read the statement from WSPA http://tinyurl.com/6h33yz ) So ( hopefully), it seems that the cat situation, though not great, is better than what the original article suggested.
However, it seems to be commonly acknowledged that stray dogs are, indeed, being picked up and killed to clean the streets for the Olympics in Beijing.

This  news does not change the necessity of this petition, which is that the mass media needs to investigate and report animal cruelty, particularly as related to the Olympics.

It is not only important that the media investigates and reports for these Olympics, but also to stop the killing of strays that has become a common response to hosting the Olympics, as also witnessed in Greece and the London Olympic grounds.  If the Olympics are to stand for a sign of world peace and cooperation, this behavior must be stopped. In order for this to happen, then the Mass Media must do it's job and investigate and report...starting in Beijing!

We the undersigned request that the Mass Media in the United States, including, but not limited to MSNBC, CNN, CBS ABC, USA TODAY and the NEW YORK TIMES run the story about the Beijing cat slaughter that is underway in order to eliminate stray and domestic cats by the start of the Olympics. International outrage stopped the Chinese from killing the dogs for the Olympics. A similar response for cats can only occur if people know about this terrible situation.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter and petition.
