Governor Deval Patrick and All of the Merrimack Valley towns and cities
Sponsored by:
There is a 348 MW Proposed Power Plant - to be located in North Billerica.  Effects of the emssions will impact Lowell, Tewksbury, Chelmsford as well as Billerica.

The plant is requesting to run 2,300 hours per year == 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

The proposed plant will dump 428,777 of CO2 emissions per year
and
41 tons of particulates per year
44 tons of NOx per year
13 tons of VOC's per year

***THE PROPONENT is now going to use 44 Million Gallons of Billerica's Municipal Water Supply --- AND the Billerica DPW and all but ONE Billerica Selectmen are willing to give away the Water supply.  The proponent was originally going to use gray water.

All but 10% of this water will get blown out the smokestacks and will not get returned to the Concord River.

There are two additional power plants in progress - LESS than 3 miles from this proposed plant.

Total Emissions below are Billerica (348MW) plus Lowell (98 MW) plus the other Lowell (76 MW)

CO2 = 1,021,374 tons/year total  == 428,777 plus 333,762 plus 258,835

NOx =  131 tons/year total    ==   44 plus 49 plus 38

CO = 104 tons/year total  == 42 plus 35 plus 27

VOC = 45 tons/year total == 13 plus 18 plus 14

PM = 135 tons/year total == 41 plus 53 plus 41

SO2 = 84 tons/year total  == 21 plus 35 plus 28

TWO 24,000 tanks of aqueous ammonia in single-walled tanks will be stored less than 1,000 feet from the Concord River

500,000 gallons of diesel fuel stored less than 1,000 feet from the Concord River

Additional point -- we don't need the Power!!  Here are other plants at some point in progress!

Lowell -- 98 MW and 76 MW
Billerica - 348 MW
Blackstone Valley/Milford - 176 MW (expansion)
Brockton - 350 MW
Walpole - 500 MW

Ok, where to start on why this should be stopped? Ammonia in single-walled tanks right next to our drinking water source seems like a good place. If the tank leaks, what then??

This power plant is not a good idea, we should be thinking of going 'green' and dumping more CO2 emissions. The location is too close to the Concord river.

Please don't allow this power plant to be built in Billerica! We don't need it and we want very much to preserve the environment of our town and our little river! When will we ever learn?.....We need to be looking at alternative energy. What will happen to this ugly monstrosity power plant when we run out of filthy fossil fuels to burn?????

Several of my friends live in Tewksbury and the Billerica area and I do not want to see their homes and lives affected by the pollution this will cause! I don't want to see the WORLD affected by the pollution this will cause. Go for Green Energy please!

Please do not build this on the border in Billerica. There is much industry in Billerica already and the Concord River is a valued natural resource both locally and downriver.

Billerica is a beautiful area enhanced by the Concord River. It's idyllic and peaceful and not an area to be polluted by a power plant.

Hi Would they put this power plant on the Concord River in Concord? We should respect this Concord river in Billerica and our resources.

There has been little regard given to the health & environmental impact of the fine particles emissions that would be generated by this power plant. The states of NJ, NY, and CT would not approve this plant based on the fine particle emissions. Why is Massachusetts behind the times?

Please stop the Billerica Power Plant! We need LESS noise and emissions, not more. We don't need to lose our drinking water to this effort, which is a duplication of two other efforts already underway--within 3 miles of where they're proposing to build this one.

I lived in Charlestown MA for a number of years. There is a power plant in Everett and I kept hearing about the high incidence of respiratory problems in Everett, Charlestown and other nearby areas attributed to the power plant. Now that I'm living out this way I don't wish that on another bunch of towns.

Air quality in this area is already overburdened by other local industrial facilties. This would negatively effect air quality to a point where it will have a potential impact on the health of anyone living nearby.

As a resident of Tewksbury, I am concerned for the health effects and problems that will be caused by this power plant for the people of Billerica and in the neighboring towns. It is not fair to put people's health at risk for the construction of a power plant!

We are planning to buy a house in billerica and are heavily concerned with thie power plant. Put it in remote locations and NOT in so heavily populated areas. Put in western Mass and carry with cables. I fully oppose this plant.
