Stop the Billerica Power Plant

Target:
Governor Deval Patrick and All of the Merrimack Valley towns and cities
Sponsored by:
There is a 348 MW Proposed Power Plant - to be located in North Billerica.  Effects of the emssions will impact Lowell, Tewksbury, Chelmsford as well as Billerica.

In order to stop this - this requires YOUR help -- We are in desperate need of funds to save our AIR and WATER!!  Please donate any amount -- nothing is too big or too small, even $10 is a help!
You can donate online:

The plant is requesting to run 2,300 hours per year == 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

The proposed plant will have SIX, Eleven feet in diameter, 80 FOOT smokestacks

The proposed plant will dump 428,777 of CO2 emissions per year
This DOUBLES the carbon footprint of town of Billerica
The proposed plant will also emit:

41 tons of particulates per year
44 tons of NOx per year
13 tons of VOC's per year

***THE PROPONENT needs 60 Million Gallons of water.  They are requesting Billerica's Grey Water (from the WWTP)  --- AND the Billerica DPW and all but TWO Billerica Selectmen are willing to give away the Water supply.

All but 10% of this water will get burned out the smokestacks and will not get returned to the Concord River.

There are two additional power plants in progress - LESS than 3 miles from this proposed plant.

Total Emissions below are Billerica (348MW) plus Lowell (98 MW) plus the other Lowell (76 MW)

CO2 = 1,021,374 tons/year total  == 428,777 plus 333,762 plus 258,835

NOx =  131 tons/year total    ==   44 plus 49 plus 38

CO = 104 tons/year total  == 42 plus 35 plus 27

VOC = 45 tons/year total == 13 plus 18 plus 14

PM = 135 tons/year total == 41 plus 53 plus 41

SO2 = 84 tons/year total  == 21 plus 35 plus 28

TWO 18,000 tanks of aqueous ammonia in single-walled tanks will be stored less than 1,000 feet from the Concord River

500,000 gallons of diesel fuel stored less than 1,000 feet from the Concord River, as well as TWO 18,000 gallon tanks of Aqueous Ammonia

Additional point -- we don't need the Power!!  Here are other plants at some point in progress!

Lowell -- 98 MW and 76 MW
Billerica - 348 MW
Blackstone Valley/Milford - 176 MW (expansion)
Brockton - 350 MW
Walpole - 500 MW
Braintree - 166 MW
Ludlow - 280 MW

Middleton - 45 MW

Westfield - 400 MW
Russell 250 MW - solar

We are currently collecting funds for our certified engineers, which is needed for town boards and MA DEP --we need your help.  Please write a check out to Billerica Watchers and send to no amount is too small or too big.  Any amount is greatly appreciated

Schott Solar in Billerica, Ma is closing it's Solar manufacturing plant July 31,The company started out as Mobile Technolegies and develope the solar panels but the German owners bought it and decided not to invest any money to grow the plant instead they took the technoledge and opened a new plant in New Mexico SO MUCH FOR GOING GREEN IN MASSACHUSETTS

We should develop sites for wind turbines and put solar panels on all rooftops when it makes sense... clean energy is key to a sustainable future, not more dirty electricity like what's being proposed in Billerica. Otherwise, you'll be leaving the park with your kids, like I have in Beverly, MA because of Salem Power Plant, when the wind blows the plume of air pollution your way! www.GreatGreenCities.org

The proposed Billerica power plant, built in an urban setting, on the banks of the Concord River, is a huge mistake. Not only is the air and noise pollution that will be caused by the plant dangerous to the people of Billerica and surronding towns, but its location on the banks of the Concord river is a disaster waiting to happen.

Please stop the power plant! Why put peoples health in danger when there are so many other options. You are ruining our town and our people.

Dear Governor Patrick: I oppose this power plant as I live within a 5 mile range of the site. I have learned that the water and air within this area will be effected by this plant. Please relocate this plant to an area that is not inhabited by people.

We don't need another permanent source of pollution. Conservation and renewable energy are much more sustainable and cost predictable in the long run. Fuel costs for this plant will certainly rise again in the lifetime of this plant and we users will foot the bill.

I live near the power plant in N. Billerica. I don't want my house value going down/resale value. Plus, I have 2 kids to raise. Would you like to raise your kids near the power plant? I didn't think so.

This is a dirty fossil fuel burnung plant with the potential to pollute the Concord and Merrimack Rivers if there is a storage tank failure. We need Green power not dirty power.

We must stop building new power plants that rely on fossil fuels. Our focus needs to be on development of clean energy. Building the Billerica Plant is NOT consistent with recent, leading edge environmental and energy legislation enacted in Massachusetts. Building this plant is a betrayal of the promise and potential of that legislation.

This proposed power plant is a total disgrace. You want to take the serene Concord River and turn it into a profit at the stake of the people of the Merrimack Valley and particularly Billerica where we are trying to raise our family. Greed always wins but for the sake of our town and our families, PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!!!!

My parents and brother live directly across the river where this plant would be and I do not want their health and welfare jeapordized by this project so I am against it.
