We are writing this letter to draw your attention to stop the clearing of the Ethiopian forest, which is located in the Gambella region.  The ancient forest, which is estimated as 5000 hectares will be distroyed soon if your interference will be delayed.
The Ethiopian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MoARD) is ignoring objections from Ethiopian President Girma Wolde-Giorgis, from the Environmental Protection Authority of Ethiopia (EPA) and from the indigenous Mazenger people of Gambella, to the clearing of 5,000 hectares of ancient forests in the Godere District, located at the headwaters of five critical rivers in the Nile Basin that are major tributaries to the White Nile.
The deforestation of this area could have serious and potentially irreversible effects on the people, habitat, wildlife, water and the world climate in general. The minister of agriculture of Ethiopia has authorized  a  fifty year lease of the land to the Indian company, Verdanta Harvests,  who planned to use the land for a tea and spice plantation.  The clearing of the trees has already begun.

We, therefore, seek your help to interfare in this situation and preserve the forest to survive.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
