Stop the limits on amount of people you can add as friends on Facebook

I've had the awful and annoying notice from Facebook on more than one occasion.  They say that I am adding too many people at a time, and if I don't slow down  my add requests that I would been banned.

Why does Facebook put limits on how many people you can add as friends at one time??  These limits should be eliminated as by my understanding that is the main reason for the Facebook site; to make it possible for friends and family to have a way to connect with each other.  With these restrictions, it makes it hard to make these connections, as I get most of my friend requests through my friend's friend lists.
