Dear auspices,
We the undersigned feel strongly about the law of magpie culling included under the wildlife and countryside act 1981, which states %u201Ccertain %u2018pest%u2019 birds can be killed on public health grounds, to prevent damage to livestock or to protect threatened wildlife%u201D
The trapping and culling of theses birds is unnecessary. There is no excuse that will stand, for one, the protection of song birds; because research done showed that there was no link between rising magpie and sparrowhalk numbers and the decline of songbirds.
Larsen traps are cruel live catch traps and sadly effective on magpies. They kill the innocent that have a right to live. There should be a more humane way of protecting public health and damage to livestock than culling, used.
If we are humans we should act humane.
Sincerely,
The undersigned and Soodle Burke
