Stop The Minisink NY Compressor Station by Millenium Pipeline

Millenium Pipeline Company owns and operates a 180 mile gas pipeline that stretches throughout New York's Southern Tier.  Federal Inspectors recently found several defective welds in these pipes posing a serious risk to  public and environmental safety.  Moreover these defects were identified before the pipes were installed.  The Company also failed to keep required inspection records. This same company now plans to build a gas compression station in the middle of a residential area in Minisink NY with little regard for the health and safety of the residents or the environment. The company is building the station in anticipation of processing large amounts of gas from the controversial practice of high volume  hydrofracking.

Whereas Hydrofracking will contaminate all of New York State's watershed.

Whereas A Gas Compression station will release  a number of carcinogens into the air and water of this community.

Whereas A Gas Compression Station causes 24 hour noise and vibrations known to cause auditory and neurological damage.

Whereas Both the pollutants and noise pose a health and safety risk to residents, livestock, wildlife and the environment

Whereas this gas compression station is to be built near a number of dairy farms which supply milk to New Yorkers  through companies such as Farmland, posing a risk to the milk and dairy supply of all New Yorkers.

Whereas this plan was developed with no community input or independent  health and safety studies, or independent environmental impact reviews.

Whereas it is not acceptable to put an industrial site in the middle of a residential/rural area.

Whereas the devaluation of property value and risk to the agricultural sector in this small town will cause complete economically devastation.

We the undersigned demand:

That Millenium Pipeline refrain from building a gas compression station near any residential or agricultural areas.

That all of New York's national, state, and local Representatives work to stop the Minisink Compression Station, support anti-Hydrofracking legislation, and implement independent health, safety, and environmental standards to regulate the gas industry in New York.

That  the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission not approve this project.

That The Minisink Township advocate on behalf of its residents to stop this compression station and not approve a zoning variance to allow the building of an industrial site on residential/rural zoned land.

That if need be Minisink Township take legal action to stop this project.
We the undersigned are greatly disturbed by the proposal to build a gas compression station in the middle of a residential area in Minisink N.Y.

A Gas Compression Station in the middle of a residential/agricultural area poses a serious danger to  local residents, livestock, wildlife, and the environment. These turbines release a number of known carcinogens into the air and water,.  They also produce 24 hour noise and vibrations which cause auditory and neurological damage.

This proposal not only poses a risk to the health and safety of this small town but it is a danger to all New Yorkers as groundwater contamination will affect the local dairy farms which supply milk and other dairy products  to markets throughout the state.

We also believe that is not fair to build an industrial site in the middle of residential or agricultural area.

We urge you to do everything in your power and authority to protect the interest of the public in Minisink as well as the rest of New York State and stop the Minisink Compression Station Project.  We also feel that there should be a ban on hydrofracking throughout New York State until thorough scientific studies on conducted on the health and environmental impact of this practice.  In addition independent and strong regulatory oversight over gas drilling in NY must immediately be implemented .
We thank you for taking the time to read this letter and sincerely hope that you will safeguard the public interest and advocate for the welfare of your constituents.
