The UN High Commission for Refugees reports that Christians make 44% of Iraqi refugees, even though only 4% of the Iraqi population is Christian. Christians were slightly tolerated during Saddam Hussein's regime. But since the war and occupation began (as a small minority without armed forces of their own) Iraqi Christians have been persecuted by both Shia and Sunni Muslim militias, and also by criminal gangs.
The persecution must stop
A safe zone needs to be established for the Christian minorities in Iraq
The world (especially the US) must recognize this problem and do something to prevent the extintion of one of Iraq's oldest communities
