STOP THE UNBEARABLE SUFFERING OF ANIMALS IN LELAND, MISSISSIPPI

Target:
Mississippi's Governor, and Leland Mayor, Barbara Brooks
Sponsored by:
I was notified today of a horrible situation that has been going on for years in Washington County, Leland, Mississippi.  The animal shelter there does not have any one that actually works there and depends solely on ARRF volunteers (Animal Rescue & Relief Fellowship).  They only have 3 and sometimes can't go there either.  These animals are not taken care off and literally are freezing to death.  According to one volunteer, whenever complaints are made to the police, the dogs mysteriously disappear or get poinsoned.  This is the most recent horrible case at this facility:

"WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED!!! Animal Relief and Rescue Fellowship (arrf) desperately needs Igloo dog houses, any and all sizes. New or used!!! The dog pound at Leland, MS is filled with abandoned and neglected animals. They were in the FREEZING COLD when temperatures dropped recently. The animals are on cold concrete floors that stay wet, due to poor drainage! Arrf has vaccinated every dog, and many of them have been treated for heartworms.. ...now they risk dying from the elements of weather!!!

Our donations have hit an ALL TIME LOW!!!! We are beyond ROCK BOTTOM!! We do not like to beg but we have no other choice right now. Arrf has also recently incurred a large medical expense to save the foot of a stray dog we named "Frito".

This past week, 4 puppies were abandoned and left at the dog pound entrance.... all alone....no one was there. No one is at the dog pound during the day. There is no grounds keeper or office. THREE of the puppies died. THEY FROZE TO DEATH in a storage container (which they were left in) with a sweater in it. They were rushed to the vet by an ARRF volunteer that discovered them, but it was too late for all but one. ONLY ONE SURVIVOR!!!! ! This was a SICK and SHAMEFUL thing to do to 4 wk old puppies!

* There is also a pregnant chocolate Lab (Krya on our web site) who will be having puppies ANY DAY now. There is no way these puppies will survive the conditions at the shelter (dog pound). When the temperature drops again, they do not stand a chance without warmth.

If you can help in any way, we would be VERY APPRECIATIVE. .....we've had so many medical emergencies lately, we JUST are going to be UNABLE to continue our mission without help. (Please read our section "who we are" on our web site. It explains that we receive no federal, city, or county funding, and NO SALARY).

* Please go to: www.arrf-arrf. org if you can spare any amount of donation. The web site is set up to accept Paypal, or you can mail your donation to our P.O. Box 66, Leland, MS 38756.

* If donating a dog house, please contact us at our e-mail address: arrf303@aol. com (at aol.com). Donations CANNOT be shipped to the dog pound, because there is NO ONE there to accept them.

Also, if you can help place any of the animals in secure, loving homes please contact us. (There is a minimal adoption fee to cover the expenses we have incurred.) BLESS YOU FOR CARING!!!!!! !! because obviously the local community does not!"

I want to get as many signatures and send this to the governor and mayor and the news media in this county to bring public attention to this issue.  They need help!!!

The County of Washinton should hang it's head, for they have shown their lack of morals, conscience, and comapssion! Lawmakers, take your children to see these horrible sights, and see the affect it has on them! For the Governor and Mayor to simply close their eyes to this problem is unconscionable. Animals deserve to live without suffering, and dying needlessly. Just like a child is innocent and dependant, so are dogs and cats. It is your duty and responsibility as state and county representatives to deal with this problem immediatley, and to rescue the animals and the shelter.

How can something so terrible go on! Please don't allow anymore animals to suffer and die, like the little baby puppies did. What has happened to caring people? Is this world as cold as the place they were in. There is no humane in humans anymore to let this continue.

There is no excuse for the County and State not to provide for cares, staff and moneys to an animal shelter. Other towns, cities and States provide services for animal shelters and pounds. If there is a shelter there, the heat should be turned on. Shame on the Mayor, Barbara Brooks of Leland, for not providing basic needs and services towards animal shelter.

It's abhorrent that the rescue, care and responsibility of stray and abandoned animals in a county or city is placed solely on the shoulders of a few local caring individuals with absolutely no governmental support. How embarrassing and shameful on the reputation of the local government. The issue of overpopulation of domesticated animals in your area is ABSOLUTELY a responsibility that the government should be addressing and most certainly providing funds for in some capacity. God Bless those few individuals that have stepped up to the plate to help the animals in dire need in the area. I can't imagine how disheartening it must be for them to feel so alone in their plight that they are in because they have the blessed personal qualities of empathy and compassion towards the most trusting and loyal creatures of man. I urge anyone in the media in the area or anyone in a position of governmental authority to stand proud and be loud about this situation.
