Say No to tuition Fee Increases

STOP THE UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX TUITION INCREASE

Target:
University of Phoenix Students
Sponsored by:

As quoted below from the University of Phoenix Website, once again UOP is raising our tuition.  This petition is to let University of Phoenix  know of their students disapproval of this increase.  Please sign this petition so that we can show University of Phoenix  just how many students are upset over this "For-Profit Institutions" need to gouge it's students.

"University of Phoenix will implement select tuition price and course material fee increases at all degree levels for courses beginning on or after July 1, 2009. The increases are designed to enable the University of Phoenix to maintain its high degree of academic excellence. The goal of the University is to constantly evaluate the learning environment, curriculum and course outcomes for students to provide the best possible education, and tuition increases such as these provide the financial support to achieve that goal. The tuition changes vary by degree, program and geography but will generally be in the range of a 2-6% increase. New rates will be posted here on July 1, 2009.

We realize that any tuition and fee changes impact our students. Thus, in order to take advantage of the current tuition and electronic course material rates, students have the opportunity to pre-pay for entire courses and electronic course materials at existing rates. Pre-payment must be received prior to July 1, 2009."  (http://www.phoenix.edu/tuition_and_financial_options.html, 2009)

I can't believe that they are increasing their tuition AGAIN!! I am already in the process of enrolling in the University of Minnesota. The tuition is HALF of what the UOP's tuition and they also offer online learning. I advise everyone to look into your local university and check out their tuition. Guaranteed it will be less than UOP's. Ridiculous!!!

I am completely against this. I will go to another school before continuing to pay higher prices for an online school.

I agree that tuition should not increase, especially at this time, the economy is horrible. There are people who are unemployed and can not save up to pay back high tuition fees. I am one of those people, I have been looking for a job since dec 2008 and have not heard any calls yet. I just looked at my account today and say that the tuition has gone up, I already have 20 k in debt for my associates, what more do I have to give!!!!

As of July 1st 2009 UoP will be raising their tuition AGAIN. This will be significant because it will create even more out of pocket expenses while in school and more loans to pay back when done. With the current economic problems this is outrageous, especially since UoP is rolling in their profits. As an educator myself and having worked in the education industry for several years I have done a lot of research and have found that there are a couple of accredited online schools that offer a much more affordable tuition rate to UoP. Several of these school will save you up to $15,000- $25,000 versus UoP’s tuition rate; that’s enough to buy a new car!! If you have already started at UoP and are worried about transferring credits, don’t worry. Some of these schools allow the transfer of up 99 traditional college credits and will transfer your financial aid. If you want information on these schools and a contact person with whom you can get in contact with at each of these schools shoot me an e-mail and I will answer your questions and get you information you need. E-mail me at - educationcosts@gmail.com

I am already 20K in debt just for my Associates. I do not see how this can be justified. I have already informed my so-called academic advisor that I will not be continuing on the my Bachelors at this so-called place of higher lerrning.

Our education is important to our future as well as the future of the USA. It is already difficult to pay our already high tuition rate...there is no need to raise the rate. In a world where people are loosing their jobs and most services have lowered their costs how can you justify raising the rates. I hope that the rate increase out wieghs the loss of students it would bring about!

I wrote a long letter and I am posting it to my current class forum. I will include the link to this petition in a "Main Forum" post. I will probably be blacklisted from the school forever.
