STOP Turkey Government's plan to start its first Nuclear Plant

Japan s Fukushima Daiichi power plant s radiation is still very alarming not only for the Japanese but for the Entire World. Japanese Prime Minister, Naoto Kan declares that Japan is on High Alert. Germany to China are suspending and rethinking their own nuclear-energy plans but Turkey s officials say their 50-year quest to build the country s first nuclear power plant is still moving full steam ahead.

Prime Turkish Minister  told reporters ahead of a trip to Russia that two Russian firms have been chosen by the Turkish government to build a power plant in the Mediterranean town of Akkuyu, in Mersin province. Turkey is also in talks with Japan s Tokyo Electric Power Co and Toshiba, which built several of Fukushima s reactors, about constructing a second plant in the Black Sea town of Sinop.

A major quake in the Marmara region near Istanbul in 1999 killed nearly 17,000 people, and experts say Istanbul and other cities remain woefully unprepared for the next big tremor. The Akkuyu site is less than 30 kilometers from a fault line.

It is a mistake to go nuclear after what has happened in Japan. Turkish Energy Minister  says that Turkey will use the third-generation technology that will make his plant safer than the first technology. No matter what they say they should not build a nuclear plant in a highly seismic area.

    Sirs,

We are responsible citizens of the World and we are deeply worried about your plans to build a Nuclear Plant in the Mediterranean town of Akkuyu, in Mersin province.

We know that Turkey is also planning to team up with Japan%u2019s Tokyo Electric Power Co and Toshiba, to build several of Fukushima%u2019s reactors and construct a second plant in the Black Sea town of Sinop. In regards to the situation due to the 9. Earthquake  on March 11th 2011 in  Japan%u2019s Fukushima Daiichi power plant, you should  see how urgent it is to stop this project. As you know once a nuclear plant is built it takes decades to Dismantle the whole structure. We cannot run this risk.

Therefore, we are by the present petition demanding that you stop all plans for nuclear energy in this highly seismic part of the world. This would not only jeopardize the future of the Turkish but of all the Europeans and the entire world.

We have a word to say about our future and the kind of world we want our children and grandchildren to live in; we cannot accept that you continue with this dangerous plan as it will no doubt lead to a major catastrophe that can be avoided now.

We hope that both of you,  Mr Prime Minister Recep TAyyip and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin,  love your children  as much as we love ours.

    Yours Sincerely,

    People of the Earth
