Stop Woodburning Now

We understand that the damage to people's health caused by the particulate matter created by woodburning is well understood and documented."... it is reasonable to conclude that exposure to the concentrations and durations of woodsmoke associated with residential woodburning is likely to cause a variety of adverse respiratory health effects. The biological plausibility for this conclusion is supported both by the toxicology literature, limited controlled exposure studies, and the wealth of data on health effects of biomass burning in developing countries reviewed below." ("Woodsmoke Health Effects: A Review."  L. P. NAEHER ET AL.  Inhalation Toxicology, 19:67%u2013106, 2007).  "Burning solid fuel yields particulate pollution - solid particles smaller than a red blood cell which have been implicated in 30,000 deaths in the US and 2.1 million deaths world wide per year."  http://burningissues.org/car-www/index.html

It is intolerable that we are subjected to the poisonous woodsmoke simply by stepping outside of our house during the winter days and especially the nights.  We do not believe that people should be allowed to burn wood freely without thought or consideration to the health of ourselves and our loved ones.

We are therefore requesting the Campbell City Council to display some courage and fortitude and eliminate this needless danger from our lives by imposing a woodburning ban except in cases of severe economic distress.  The citizens of our Great City would be well served by this end.
