STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY PETITION

To The House of Commons in Parliament assembled:

We, the undersigned residents of Canada and concerned global citizens, urge the House of Commons to amend Canadas federal animal cruelty legislation.

We strongly feel our current federal animal cruelty laws are grossly inadequate and do not offer effective protection for animals in this country and that the passage of Bill S203 did nothing to address the inadequacies of this outdated legislation that continues the deplorable statistic of animal cruelty cases leading to unsuccessful conviction.

Canada continues to rank at the bottom along with third world countries on animal protection legislation and this is unacceptable.

Therefore, your petitioners request that Parliament adopt new legislation modeled on the formerly proposed Bill C-373 to bring Canada into the 21st century on animal welfare legislation.

Only through legislation that allows for prosecution of animal cruelty with stronger penalties imposed on those found guilty will Canada be a just and compassionate country.

With the proven link between animal and human abuse, may we further suggest the consideration of including mandatory psychological counseling for the convicted animal abuser as one of the legislative modifications.

This petition is in support of the following legal paper petition to be submitted in the House of Commons supporting effective animal cruelty legislation based on the principles of C-373 (now C-229) - http://stopanimalcrueltyincanada.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/2009-animal-cruelty-petition2.pdf

There is no excuse for animal abuse. It is not a property crime. Animals are not inanimate objects that can be replaced if broken or stolen. These are living creatures and humans have no right to cause them pain, starvation or death. The penalties need to fit the crime and at this time they do not.

Just as guilty as the perpetrator, is the Province. How long ... and how many ... animals have suffered similarly. How many abusers continue to get away with such atrocities because there is no price to pay for their abuse. They should thank God that I am not the one appointed to deliver the reprisal !!!!!!!!!

Dostoyevski: "Love all of God's creation, the whole of it and every grain of sand in it. Love every leaf, every ray of God's light. Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will perceive the divine mystery in things. Once you have perceived it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day, and you will come at last to love the world with an all-embracing love (Fyodor Dostoyevski)." Animal abuse is no different than the abuse of humans. They feel pain and fear just as we do. There needs to be much tougher laws in order to punish and deter those who abuse and neglect animals. A message needs to be sent and there needs to be serious consequences for such senseless. despicable behavior. Thank you.

Canada needs to step this up - how can we have such a high standard of living for humans, but not have proper legislation for animal rights? We should be a world leader in this legislation, get moving on it!

Animal rights is a social justice issue and we must encourage a movement toward a world in which animals are treated with compassion and mercy and accorded the same rights that humans take for granted.

Our animals were not put on this planet to abuse, torture, or kill. People that do things are worth anything. You can always judge a person on how they treat animals.

Canada is evolving in technology, so why can't we as Canadians come together to find a way to stop animal cruelty in all aspects of life. Its shameful to see that people are losing compassion and respect for animals whether they are small or large breeds. I was shocked to discover on youtube.com how terrible individuals treat animals in the United States and Canada, if humans endured the same treatment things would be changed immediately, and yet nothing is done for the animals who endure this on a continued basis. Children who are abused are immediately taken away from the abusive parent and given a sentence in court, this should also be applied to people who mistreat animals. The courts need to start giving stronger penalties for owners who cause mistreatment to animals in any way.

We are now in an era when human beings disregard the well being of other living creatures for not only survival, but for entertainment. There are animals bred for money. There are animals being mutilated and/or skinned alive because people don't think that animals have actual feelings or thoughts. There are even pets who are being abused for the sole reason of someone's so called "fun". They don't have a voice, but if they did, would we listen? Please help stop humanity from going down the slopes and into insanity. Please save the animals of the earth.

Animals all over are being treated like they're stuffed toys. They are skinned alive, stuffed in crates to die with maggots, tested in labs, never to see daylight, until they die of psychosis or infections. They are physically, mentally, and socially abused. Have you seen any videos of the torture that many animals go through, including sharks, monkeys, raccoons, wolves, any creature that isn't human?! We humans take advantage of our superior species, killing just because we're stronger and smarter. What about the animals? Who stands for them? They can feel things too. They have thoughts also. They can feel pain everytime a human sticks a needle in them, shoves a tube down their nose, cuts off a fin, skins them alive and let them die slowly. We need to do something about this, and I'm doing my part. What about you?

People who commit wrong-doings to other living beings should always be held accountable for what they have done. Maybe they will learn from their mistakes and even help teach others what can happen if they do wrong to others.

Hard to believe such things can be done with out the lawful punishment that is ever so much deserved.Someone who decides to commit such inhumane acts should be treated as the criminal they are,and the only time they they should be allowed to have after that should be spent paying back their debt to the animals.

How can we ever agree to high level treaties when individuals can tolerate unneeded cruelty to living creatures that cannot speak for themselves. Is this not the flaw in the basic foundations of our civilisations
