STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY PETITION

To The House of Commons in Parliament assembled:

We, the undersigned residents of Canada and concerned global citizens, urge the House of Commons to amend Canadas federal animal cruelty legislation.

We strongly feel our current federal animal cruelty laws are grossly inadequate and do not offer effective protection for animals in this country and that the passage of Bill S203 did nothing to address the inadequacies of this outdated legislation that continues the deplorable statistic of animal cruelty cases leading to unsuccessful conviction.

Canada continues to rank at the bottom along with third world countries on animal protection legislation and this is unacceptable.

Therefore, your petitioners request that Parliament adopt new legislation modeled on the formerly proposed Bill C-373 to bring Canada into the 21st century on animal welfare legislation.

Only through legislation that allows for prosecution of animal cruelty with stronger penalties imposed on those found guilty will Canada be a just and compassionate country.

With the proven link between animal and human abuse, may we further suggest the consideration of including mandatory psychological counseling for the convicted animal abuser as one of the legislative modifications.

This petition is in support of the following legal paper petition to be submitted in the House of Commons supporting effective animal cruelty legislation based on the principles of C-373 (now C-229) - http://stopanimalcrueltyincanada.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/2009-animal-cruelty-petition2.pdf

I believe that animals should be protected from any kind of neglect or cruelty.People have been allowed to abuse animals for far to long knowing that they can get away with it. It's time to put a stop to abuse and that anyone caught abusing an animal will be severely punished for their actions. These people should be put in jail and be fined. If I had my way I would punish these people in the same manor they abused these dogs. I am so sick of people getting away with harming animals with no repercussions. Put a stop this and show people that they will be punished for abusing animals. There is no reason for anyone to abuse an animal. Now you have the make sure that everyone understands that your country will not tolerate abuse of any animal and will be put in jail without any exceptions.

This man should have had charges brought against him. If some of the animals were blind and expecting the neglect had been going on for some time. Did he just realize it? No, I don't think so!

Last summer, I spent an amazing week in Victoria. I was impressed by the people and area. In fact, visiting other areas of Canada, I've always been impressed. This information that you have no laws protecting the animal citizens of Canada from cruelty seems amazing. I did wonder about the horses, drawing the carriages of tourists around Victoria. There is really no excuse for cruelty to animals not being a crime in your country. Many people need a law before they will act as they should. Others, never follow the laws and they should be arrested. That is the way a stable society works. Allowing the animals of your country to be grossly mistreated says something about law abiding citizens and their representives in the government, too. Doesn't it? Allow your goodness and common sense to shine and amend/pass a criminal law directed at the mistreatment of all animals in Canada.
