Millions of sharks a year have their fins removed and are thrown back into the sea for shark fin soup, a gelatinous, unflavored "delicacy" that contains dangerously high levels of mercury, as much as 42 times more than safe limits for humans. The practice of shark definning not only negatively effects sharks (Some species of sharks are nearly endangered because of this), but it also effects humans and interferes with the entire ocean ecosystem.
The main point of this petition is to prevent sharks from being slaughtered by having their fins knived off, and then being discarded into the sea to be eaten alive by sea creatures or painfully dying from loss of blood. This should not be legal.
