Our mission at Nurse4Nurse, is to promote the nursing profession in the highest regard. To advocate for the safety, and well being of nurses and fellow healthcare workers. We believe that violence in the workplace should not be "part of the job". Safety for nurses, ensures better patient care and outcome. Our motto is "Nurses are Precious." Take care of us and we will take care of you! We endevor to work with nursing organizations, elected officials , and the public to effect change, in regard to nurse safety in the workplace.
Dedicated, caring, and compassionate, are just some of the terms used to describe healthcare workers across the country.
Nurses, physicians, paramedics, emergency room staff, are on the front lines of healthcare delivery. The work can be extremely demanding, but also very rewarding. There has been a disturbing trend of violence towards healthcare workers in recent years, sometimes with dire consequences. Emergency rooms, nursing homes, and hospitals, have seen a rise in the number of incidents, against staff, by patients, and sometimes family members,or acquaintances. Statistics gathered by the U.S. Department of Justice states, that there are 430,000 reports of abuse by patients to staff yearly. Many of these incidents often go unreported.
I am advocating for safety measures to be implemented for staff. Security measures such as easily accessable alarms, panic buttons, security gaurds, and training in the event an assault. At this time, privately owned facilities are not mandated by law to provide training against being physically attacked by a resident.
On March 5,2007, a bill #A06186 was introduced into the Assembly to make it a felony to assault a healthcare worker. The bill was referred to the Comittee on Codes for review. Similar legislation has been enacted in Alabama, Nevada, and New Mexico.
No one should have to go to work in fear, many of these incidents go unreported.Lets make a difference! This petition shall be forwarded to Assembly members, David Koon, Oliver Koppell, Senator Marty Golden
and others who are responsible for it's introduction.
Nurses are precious!
