Dear Gov. Harley Barbour,
Please.. Strengthen Mississippi's penalties for animal abuse !!

We urge you to fight for legislation in 2011 that would penalize animal abusers, and work on harsher sentencing for those who Abuse animals.
It's not a felony in Mississippi to set a dog on fire or to grind up glass and mix it into a cat's food.
It's time to Strengthen the State Laws Against the Torture of Animals.

"The Animal Welfare Bill is only about cats and dogs. Llivestock production would not be affected ? "We, as Farm Bureau members, can't allow that to happen." ??
Torturing
livestock is Not about production, it's about Cruelty !!
Among other weaknesses in your animal protection laws, Mississippi has no felony provisions for animal cruelty, neglect or abandonment, inadequate reporting provisions for suspected animal abuse, no mental health evaluations or counseling for offenders, and inadequate animal fighting provisions.
The House Agriculture Committee never even considered the bill, and the measure died. Where is their Heart
Mississippi's current regulations, fines and sentencing are far too lenient.
Thank You For Your Time Gov. Barbour
