Last year the school Policy stated the children could carry their phones to schoo. However, they could not be in use or view on school property from 7:45 to 2:45. if observed in use or in view the cell phone will be confiscated. 1st offense -not less than 2 weeks 4th offense remainder of the school year. This year it states no personal communication device including but not limited to cellular phones or elctronic pagers or beepers inside a school building , on school buses or during any instructional activity.
I beleive that our childrean have every right to have a cell phone. In the past it has been proven that the children are the ones calling for help not our teachers or staff. The schools can not promise us that our children will be safe from the point they leave home to the point they return home.
I do agree that if the phone is miss used that it should be taked away and a parent go and pick it up. I feel that the family of the child and the teacher should work together for the best of the child. Safety being one of the most important things. I do want to address that I understand that things can be used inappropriate and in that scense I do agree in a punishment for it.

I agree that students can carry a cell phone but not have it on during school hours. Also, punishment for cell phones on school grounds should not affect academic achivement. School suspension due to possession of cell phones is too harsh of a punsihment for cell phone possession. Why affect a good student's GPA over cell phone possession. Just take the phone away if being used during school hours. I understand the adverse effect of some students use of cell phones during shool hours; however, possession and use are two different subjects entirely.

I agree a child should be able to carry a cell phone so they can call their parent only!! The school is not always able to protect our children an the children should be able to contack their parent even in school. I do not think it should be use for any thing other than contacking their parents. An the parents should be able to call their children too !!

I agree 100%. Obviously they should be confiscated if they are disrupting the classroom, but I feel much safer knowing as a parent that my children have a cellphone turned off in their backpacks for emergency situations. Last year in fact (before we bought them cellphones) they called us from a friends cell phone. Apparently the bus driver was keeping them all locked on a hot bus in May on a very hot day, and they had been there for approximately 45 minutes with no air conditioning over a balloon. I was able to go and confront this bus driver, and have my fourteen year old's released, and the driver suspended (and she later resigned) due to this incident. If G_d forbid someone was to come into our child's school, with the intent to cause harm, they could get help faster by contacting us. It would also grant us parents the peace of mind knowing that at that moment our child is safe when we see their school under siege on the news.

I agree, our children absolutely have the right to be safe and have a way to call for help if they need to. I do not think it is fair that the school would keep the phone for the whole time. Maybe have the students turn over their phones at the beginning of each day and return the phones when school is getting out?
