Support Adult Medical Day Care for Seniors/Disabled

Target:
All individuals who support seniors and the disabled community
Sponsored by:

Support those who support those that you love.  We provide the key service for seniors and the disabled community so that they can remain in their homes longer and not go into nursing homes.  We need help, the government is trying to diminsh our services that are needed in our communities.  Please read below for more information.  This effects everyone who is a caregiver, child of a senior or parents of the disabled community.

As a board member of the National Adult Day Service Association and past president of the New Jersey Adult Day Service Association, we have been on the forefront of the Adult Day Care Industry to instil community awareness as well as good policy for our programs so that we can better service our seniors and disabled communities. The philosophy of Adult Day Care remains a crucial component to Senior Care in New Jersey and across the Nation. We provide supportive services and community based options to prevent early onset of institutionalization, emergency room visits, hospitalization and most of all withdrawal and isolation from society. We need to take care of our seniors...We need to continue to provide them with supportive services that work...Adult Day Care is a viable solution to the long term care continuum. What better service can you get within a 5 hour program? We offer transportation to and from your home, good nutritious meals and snacks, medical monitoring and treatment, therapy, therapeutic activities and socialization along with so many other services offered at these programs. Understanding Adult Day Care, you would understand that the rate of $70 a day just covers your costs. Comparing Assisted Living and Adult Day Care is like comparing apples and oranges...and if you ask any Assisted Living facility, they would choose not to take that client for $70 a day because they can't cover their cost either. Cutting costs to the Adult Day Care industry could seriously diminish our community supportive service options. Simply, Adult Day Care Centers will go out of business! This is a reality we need to face when we are so quick to cut programs and services. The bottom line is that our seniors need this service across the Nation! We need to continue to be committed to make individuals that make these decisions not only aware of the detrimental effects it would have on our society but also the positive effects it does present to our communities. we are a society of here and now and unfortunately we are forgetting who got us here~ we, need to care for the elderly, so that their transition is as smooth as possible. The elders do not like asking for assistance, nor feel as tho they are being a bother - and then there is the pride. as people, in America, we must now take care of our elders- countries that have so little, take care of the older generations with much more dignity within the family than we do. shame on us as a whole!!!

With today's economy the way it is, the government should be responsible for taking care of the elderly who have made this country what it is!

Mr. Governor - Please Take Economics 101. Balancing Budget is not a wrestling match. If you cut Adult Day Health Care - you will use my taxes to pay for hospital bilss which are 50 to 100 times more than Adult day Health Care. Also there are no beds in nursing homes which is more expensive. by saving $117 million you will end up paying over $2 billion in medical costs STOP PROPOSED CUTS TO ADULT DAY HEALTH CARE PROGRAM. Let them provide services to all elderly and frail citizens. DO you realize that the cost of Medical care in Adult Day Health care programs is less than $3 per hour for Nursing, Physical, Occupational, Speech Therapy, Counseling, med. management and hospital/doctor/family interface. Guys this is not just cheap it is FREE. Imagine on emergency trip with a hospital bill of $100K or more just once a year for the 50,000 plus enrolled elders. Saving of $117million implies less than $200 per month per person for a 30 hour per week medical/social/food/transport/therapy and personal care.

We need to care better for or elderly relatives, and working families have very few quality resources. Please help support this program to be able to offer it those that need it most.

Adult day health care services are a cost effective long term care option that permits seniors to age in place. The important role that these facilities play in the limited arena of long-term care options is critical. Unfortunately, it is usually only when we are in need of such services for loved ones that the issue takes center stage, as it has in my life, caring for a parent with dementia. Rather than punish the several excellent centers by cutting their rates, revoke the licenses of those centers that are not providing adequate services, increase oversite and accountability. This is much too important an issue for those of us in the sandwich generation, taking care of children and our parents, particularly when you have a parent that simply needs a bit more supervision, but not to the level of requiring 24 hour institutional care. Every study that I have read, indicates that adult day heath care, which provides a multi-disciple approach to care (nursing, social work, recreation) is THE most cost-effective long-term care option. Moreover, it supports NJ's strategic plan to enable seniors to remain independent and to age in place by providing community based long term care options. Make the right decision, enforce the laws that are currently available to curb funding abuses, examine where the State is wasting money in the pre-qualification procedure for long-term care options (home-health aide and ADHC same qualification process - use one form /one qualification process let the caregivers chose what they want), re-examining participants in long-term care that have incurable illneses such as Alzheimers, dementia, Parkinsons, downs syndome is a waste of time and resources. Once they qualify, they qualify for life - they aren't going to get better. Take a close and hard look at where there is waste in the system. Don't cut the rate which will severely impact the financial stability of alot of centers that are providing much needed care.
