Support Metro for access to work and play

Support Metro for access to work and play

Target:
U.S. Congress, Senate, and Barrack Obama
Sponsored by:
Metro is slapped with service cuts and we need support so that we can get the routes restored.  Without service, jobs are killed!  We need lots of signatures due to that the next change after March comes June or July when tourist season is high!  And normally that is when gas prices goes up!  Imagine if American Idol came to St. Louis for Season 9 or Season 10 auditions.  Wouldn't you want a bus to take you to an American Idol audition?  Public transit is the key generator for the economy and tourism.  With public transit becoming more convenient, needing the car would become less and less.  If we can get lots of signatores, that would be great!

We the undersidgned want you to please consider funding Metro so people that don't have a car can have a way to get to work!  Without a bus, people without a car can't get to work.  And there are some that can't afford to buy much gasoline to operate a car.  Big oil can't be trusted at times.  The way the economy is these days, the bus the best way to get around.  Same with the train and Call-a-Ride service.  There are some who even rely on public transit to go to the grocery store or to the drug store.  Each year, St. Louis is oine of the host cities for concerts of all types including American Idol.  Someday, American Idol fans could come here to St. Louis to audition for American Idol.

The Metro is a wonderful public transportation system and should be richly supported for the well-being and economic growth of the community.

Do not make the riders of Metro pay for the lack of vision and competence displayed by the Metro corporation and city governments of St Louis and the voters of the 94 municipalities surrounding the city of Saint Louis who voted against a tax increase to support Metro transit. The deck is stacked against the low-income people of this region, and especially the city dwellers who have to commute to their low-paying jobs, often more than two jobs per person, to the jobs mostly located in the more affluent suburbs and exburbs. Do not take away their hope of getting to work and school and without going hungry, one more day. Too many are on the edge, and there is practically no safety net to catch them here. When I ask the children in city schools how many have gone hungry to raise their hands, and not be ashamed to raise their hands, almost the whole class raises their hands.

Many people who live in St. Louis work at restaurants, stores and other establishments west of I-270 and rely on Metro as their only means of transportation. Others, who live west of I-270 work in the city or Clayton or other locations and use the bus to save money and be responsible environmental stewards. To discontinue Metro service west of 270 does a disservice to all of these citizens of the Metro St. Louis area.

We MUST set aside Metro's past history, & restore the cuts. Then, more people can get to work! Our inconvenient crumbling US transit system is waaaay behind that in OTHER 1st-world countries! Further, any car company bailout MUST INCLUDE upgrading US public transit!

I voted for the Metro tax increase and could not believe the shortsightedness of those who voted against it. When gas prices go up again (as they surely will) and as global warming causes more problems in weather, food production and ocean rise, our great grandchildren will surely curse our poor judgment. In fact, a goodly number of them may die because of it.

It is a blessing to be employed during these challenging economic times. Countless individuals could not get to work without Metro and will loss their jobs if Metro routes are cut. I urge you to use your power to prevent these cuts by whatever means necessary, including, but not limited to an emergency subsidy to Metro. Please show those who depend on public transit that our federal officials know how essential they are to our economy. Demonstrate your commitment to them like you expeditiously assisted the financial market. Sincerely expect you to address this impending crisis.

Increasing public transportation is the only thing that makes sense at a time when gas prices are bound to escalate again, global warming is happening, and our local economy depends on everyone being able to get to their jobs, especially those who are already on the edge and struggling to support their families. Thank you, Dana Barhard

The working and energy saving people of St. Louis rely on Metro to fill their needs for transportation. We should try to keep up with the world cities who know the value of public transportation instead of the usual St. Louis position of movinf backwards.

St. Louis is one of the few major cities to be so lacking in this area. Even cities without a train system have sufficient (or even ample) numbers of busses and routes to make up the difference. This is a very important issue for the growth of our city!

There are hard-working people who already have a long difficult commute to work--one day I sat next to a woman on the bus who goes and hour and a half each way to her low-paying hospital job. The cuts will make her commute more difficult or even impossible. Getting St. Louis decent public transportation should be a priority. The system here gets virtually no support from the state.

St. Louis and some midwestern states has seen severe ozone levels in the summertime. The public service bus and the electric streetcar with lots of passengers on them can help remove lots of cars off the highway. The bus is also a great way to get someone home from a bar without getting into trouble.

Dear Obama, We have faith in you to help us with the Metro System.. Having a Metro is the best, and we need to restore the routes. The environment is a major issue and having the Metro instead of driving a car would be beneficial to the environment and reducing Global Warming. It would be better if all those big Transit Systems could be restored to use less energy then the way they are using up energy now; with primitive and environmentally harmful petroleum fuels to propel your mass transit services, but lets at least get the routes up and running properly and then we’ll work on that… The people who don’t have a car need to get to work, get to shopping, get to families houses, get to school and so forth so why deny this to the public when it’s in everyone’s best interest to restore the routes of the Metro…
