Support Renewable Energy Tax Credits

Support Renewable Energy Tax Credits

Target:
U.S. Congress

We urgently need you to tell Congress to support an extension of the most effective incentive for wind and solar power in the United States: the Production Tax Credit (PTC).  If we do not get the Senate and the House of Representatives (and the White House!) to cooperate on passing an extension of the renewable energy production tax credits very soon, our country may lose 116,000 jobs in the wind and solar industries and more than $19 billion in clean energy investment.  Your voice needs to be heard on Capitol Hill!  Urge Congress to ensure that the wind and other renewable energy industries receive the economic incentives they need to grow steadily in the coming years.

I urge you to support and pass bipartisan legislation as soon as possible that extends federal tax incentives for renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, and consumer purchases of energy-efficient products.  These critically important incentives have expired or will expire at the end of this year and must be extended immediately to avoid significant harm to the burgeoning clean energy industries in the United States.  Every day that you wait to act on this, investments in clean energy projects that would be completed in 2009 or later are being delayed or cancelled entirely.  As a result, America%u2019s economy, energy security, and environment are at stake.

America is on the cusp of a new, clean energy economy.  Extending renewable energy and energy efficiency tax incentives is critical to promoting the transition to this economy.  The incentives will help get us started on solving the global warming problem, reduce energy prices for consumers, and create tens of thousands of new high-wage jobs.  Please support bipartisan legislation that extends the renewable energy tax credits as soon as possible.  The future of renewable energy in America hinges on your actions.

Investment in sources of clean renewable energy represents the clearest path for economic growth in this country. It is imperative for Congress to extend tax credits to this industry without delay.

End all subsidies, tax breaks and tax credits for oil, gas, and coal industries now. Redirect the money saved to clean energy projects. This should include as increasing low and no-interest loans for low income and middle class for energy efficient home improvements such as installing solar and wind power, better insulation, storm windows, adding on mudrooms to catch escaping warm air in the winter, etc. Every state and national government building properly sited for optimum energy generation should have solar and/or wind power installed. Building codes should be revised to require higher energy efficiency in new homes and business buildings so they are right and tight from the start. As you know pollution does not only increase global climate change. It also increases death and disease more directly. Particulate air pollution is linked not just asthma but heart attack and infant deaths: http://articles.latimes.com/2001/dec/16/news/mn-15433 or http://www.commondreams.org/headlines01/1216-01.htm Quote: "In the latest research from UCLA, Ritz and a team of researchers found that women exposed to high levels of ozone and carbon monoxide were three times more likely than others to have babies with cleft lips and palates and defective heart valves." snip "A study by scientists from the Harvard School of Public Health and the University of Basel in Switzerland concluded that as many as 11% of infant deaths in the United States--about 3,000 per year--may be a result of microscopic particles in the air. The study, which has yet to be published, expands on earlier research by the EPA and Centers for Disease Control that looked at 4 million infants in 86 metropolitan areas and compared the incidence of mortality with fluctuating rates of particulate pollution. That study concluded that as particulate matter increased in the air, the infant mortality rate rose by 10% to 40%. "

On August 19th the group MoveOn.org is eleasing reports around the country with new state-by-state data detailing what billions we give Big Oil in tax breaks could buy in the way of clean energy projects and job creation. We should all make a concerted effort to tell John McCain and the Republicans NOT TO USE OUR TAX DOLLARS FOR BIG OIL GIVEAWAYS! Instead we can invest in a clean energy future. Stop the talk of offshore oil drilling and support conservation, tire pumping to keep tires properly inflated (see www.pumpemup.org) which Barack Obama has always supported, if there is going to be offshore oil drilling even require the oil companies to drill for more oil on lands already leased to them that has oil but they are not drilling on before even thinking of leasing more land for oil exploration, drilling and refining. Our leaders currently pretend that by giving big tax breaks to oil companies and supporting the idea of offshore oil drilling -- with the leasing of more land to them that the oil companies will reward us by giving consumers cheaper prices for a gallon of gasoline thus ending the pain at the pump. We need real solutions -- stop the giveaways to oil companies -- pass a windfall profits tax on the oil companies as a short term solution at least for helping reduce gasoline prices for consumers, and force the oil companies to invest more in cleaner, cheaper and more efficient renewable sources of energy, invest in new technologies and provide incentives to the automobile industry to develop new cars that run on hydrogen or electricity. Provide incentives for more electricity to be generated by solar power plants and wind mills so energy companies will rely on cheaper, and cleaner sources of energy.

I am a financial conservative, but I strongly support renewable energy. It is crucial the US politcal system wake up to how important this is. I strongly oppose candidates who don't follow through and vote properly on these issues.

Dear Sir: We need you to support any legislation which promotes use of solar power for electricity or for any other renewable energy use. If gov give 10% of the money we spent on war to promote use of solar power we can solve the oil problem once and for all. And we do'nt have to kiss OPEC people for oil.

Maximizing our use of clean energy is critical for the future of our nation. Supporting the tax credits will encourage more reserch and development of clean energy. We can either be leaders or followers. It is important to send a strong signal to our citizens and other nations that we are committed to using and developing clean energy.

supporting solar and wind power is critical with oil prices soaring drastically. This is a definete win-win situation for everyone environmentally and financially. continuing any and all rebates, incentives, and options is crucial for anyone to be able to bring the costs down on the products being supplied so that eventually everyone can afford them. This is so important by being a major step in lowering costs and gas costs drastically. please continue any credits already being offered to offset any other costs with the unpresidented inflation of everything in the world today. Thank you.

Thankfully, the Bureau of Land Management has reversed its two year moratorium on the solar industry's government land leasing but the extension of the tax credits is also vitally important to the continuation and growth of this industry, which is needed now more than ever before.

I believe the renewable energy production tax credits should be extended for wind turbines and other forms of clean, renewable energy resources. Since it has been acknowledged by the U.S. and other countries that global warming is man-made and one of the biggest contributors are gas-fueled vehicles; and since the rapid increase in the cost of gas, politicians have been saying that we need to become oil-independent. I don't see how we, as a country, can possible do that if clean renewable energy sources aren't funded. For too long, many members of Congress and the Senate have played guardian angels to oil companies; supporting the oil industry instead of the people of this country whose health and future depends on decreasing global warming. And the best way to do this, is to support clean energy like wind turbines, solar, geothermal and wave-powered energy.

It is a shame we have had and have to many people in government positions who are always thinking only of themselves first and last and blind to the facts. God lives and is active in granting free agency to all. It is people who chose to ignore his hand in our lives and accept responsibility for our actions that make us weaker as a people and nation. Stand for good and be counted for it. After all that is why the people have elected you to represent them and you. Always work for the good of all and God will work with you. Take him out of your life and ours and we will never measure up to our own potential. Many a soldier has given his life that you might live and do good. GOD BLESS YOU - US AND ALL OF AMERICA.

I cannot believe in a time of 4 dollar gas and climate change concerns, congress has not acted to fix this problem. In Wyoming, we have enough wind to supply most of the west coast with energy. We still have no comprehensive energy plan in this country and we still rely on countries that hate us for our economic needs. When is congress going to do something? Congress needs to put the country first and not its own needs for once.

We have been interested in windpower for the past 10 years, - even stating that we would donate land to erect a tower or two! Our son would like to have a wind tower built on either of our farms. We looked into it when we had a grade A dairy, but since the buyout, we have not pursued the plant as eagerly. We definately would if we did not have to fight NE Public Power and their monoply on producing electricity in NE.

Renewable Energy credits would comprise a proportionally miniscule amount of budget funds, and would simply serve to even the playing field in comparison to the massive incentives given to both nuclear and fossil fuel generation. It would be totally irresponsible to allow this tax credit to expire, and just as bad to allow a temporary one-year band-aid. These projects require multiple years to permit, finance, and construct; without a multi-year credit these projects won't even be started.
