We, the undersigned urge the FLDS church and all their supporters to stop participating in and supporting child abuse. We demand Constitutional rights for the FLDS children. All children have the right to grow up in a safe environment. We support religious freedom. We condemn anyone that uses religious freedom as a guise to perpetrate abuse on children. We question the actions of any person that supports Warren Jeffs. A man convicted of accessory to rape for coercing a 14-year-old girl to marry her 19-year-old cousin. If the FLDS church supports this man, then their members are supporting child abuse and should be held accountable.

Thanks to Brook Adams' blog today (7/4), I became aware of this opportunity. My family members and I whole-heartedly support Texas' actions and hope FLDS parents now understand that not everybody will continue to stand by while they inflict their form of abuse on their minor children. Their convoluted religious beliefs have been conjured up by their false prophets who lead their people against God's will. God wants his people to make the heart-felt, educated choice to follow Him, and commands parents to teach and guide their children according to His glory. Instead, these children are being encased in wax, wrapped in pretty pastel wrappers and handed over to the highest bidder as determined by whatever mortal happens to be "in charge." Just as God provided the opportunity for Adam and Eve to fall then move forward, FLDS parents should allow their children to "fall forward." God promises parents that if they raise their children up in His word, the children will return to it. Give those children a chance to make that choice.

Although you may not understand our humanitarian values as yet, I believe that your community is beginning to learn.
1) You MUST educate your people and not permit or condone cousin/ near-relation marriages. You are creating too many babies and at risk people that are ill because you do not understand basic genetics. You must stop inter-marrying. If you carry on, you will extinguish yourselves before achieving any Zion you seek.
2) You must not "re-assign wives" to other men. This is abuse of children to lose their father.
3) You should do as we do - expose your children to today's society, but teach them also that much of what they see is not acceptable. To deny your children access to the world is not smart.
4) You should refrain from lying to your children about facts, such as man going to the moon, and prepare all of your children with a full and complete high school education,
5) You must respect child labour laws and ensure that your children have school for 9 months per year until grade 12. Children should not work on farms unless their studies are finished.
6) You should teach your children that there are many ways to serve God. A women who prefers not to be married or who wants a career should be encouraged and valued; similarly, your male children should stay in school until grade 12 and be valued for what they want to do in life. If they do not want to bepart of yourthing, you should tolerate that and keep them in your family until they are ready and able to leave. Once they have left, it is CRUCIAL that you stay in touch with them and have relationships with them. NO CUT_OFFS!
7) Never send one of your relatives to B.C., unless they are going here to attend higher schooling and/or really want to marry a man of their age here and live monogamously. And make sure they come into the country legally.

my family went to texas in 1832 and fought in san jacinto against santa anna. one was in the first republic of texas legislature. but, i have never been so proud to be a texan as when you attempted to rescue the children from the flds cult. if they should sue, i predict no texas jury would give them more than 1.00. hope you get some of those male predators.

Just heard about this site and I am proud to sign it. These girls need to know that they have value in and of themselves, not just as property of the priesthood.

Unreal what morons, I mean mormons, will try to get away with in the name of 'religion'! But they aren't the only church/cult.
Children should be taken care of. Both their minds and bodies.
The hand that rocks the cradle... I am proud of what TEXAS did!!!

I am a proud Texan and I support what our state has done. Adults having sex with minors is illegal and immoral and religious freedom should not be a defense for child sexual abuse. I also deplore the forced eviction of young males to support the practice of polygamy by the powerful elite males of the sect.

As a life-long Utahn I have witnessed too many girls in gingham dresses leave school after 8th grade to "marry", abandoned boys and rampant welfare abuse. The leading men of this cult use FEAR and ISOLATION to control the other men and all of the women and children. Any person who calls Warren Jeffs prophet should not be caring for children.
If it's SECRET and ELITE, it needs to be watched. The LDS church should step up and denounce their past polygamous practices, remove D&C 132 from "doctrine" and apologize to this country for "restoring" this horrible practice. Utah and Nevada need to take a page out of Texas' playbook.

I believe that taking the children was done in their best interests and that they are in danger until the FLDS learns to respect the law and to understand the meaning and the impact of abuse.

Last I heard, it's illegal to have sexual relations with a minor. Those who do should be held accountable to the greatest degree the law allows.

Thank you, Texas. Thank you to the state, to the CPS workers, to Judge Walther, Governor Perry, and all the wonderful people in the foster facilities who tended the FLDS children during their stay. The children should NOT have been returned to the adults of the FLDS before the investigation was complete. We can only hope now that there will be indictments handed down, and that the 'disappeared' men of the FLDS -- those who ran from their women and children at the first sign of trouble like a bunch of jackals -- will be brought to justice. We can only hope that the FLDS mothers will have a mass awakening to the fact that they and their children have been enslaved, used and abused by their prophet and other high-ranking leaders of their so-called religion. God does not look kindly at the use and abuse of children. God does not look kindly at a man like Warren Jeffs, who practices evil in His name. The rest of America needs to wake up and demand that these children's rights under the Constitution be held in higher esteem than the rights of their parents to treat them as they see fit. This is the United States of America! No one in this great country of ours should be living behind walls of secrecy, under the control of the likes of Warren Jeffs. Let this be the beginning of the end of this abomination. The time has come.

My thanks to Texas officials for stepping in to help young girls at risk for forced underage marriage and exploitation of young boys used as a labor force. I want to quote Law Professor Marci Hamilton from the Washington Post, April 8, 2008 to best state my position. "If a parent physically or sexually abuses a child, or permits the abuse to happen, no amount of religious explanation should protect the adult from accountability."

I have watched for years what has happened to the children of this group. It is more then time that this group be held accountable for their actions. This abuse has been going on for four or five generations because they say this is practice of their religion, but when they abuse women or children it is not about religion, it is a very sick attitude. They need to answer for their crimes just like any other person does in our society. It is high time to make them accountable and do what can be done to protect their children.

I truly believe this church must be held accountable for their child abuse and abuse of women. This issue must be resolved to preserve the validity of maintaining our cultural good health as a Nation. We must not allow this abuse to continue because it jeopardizes our future, our pursuit of happiness, and our ability to realize and apply our God given talents to equally serve out our purposes in this creation that we are all participating in. Men are blessed with the gift of physical strength and that gift should not be used to subjugate others who have different gifts in this life.

We must always error on the side of caution. Had someone stepped in and removed the children from both Jonestown and Wacco they would be alive today. I do not want to see more dead children because we as a country dropped the ball.
Parents have rights but those rights end when they endanger innocent children.
If the FLDS parents really have nothing to hide they should welcome any investigation that clears their name and puts to rest all rumors. But to refuse to answer questions it tells me things are not as wholesome as they want the world to believe.
This isn't about Faith and Belief it is about child abuse..period.
All the children had to be removed until each ones safety could be assured.

I hope the recent news of the Texas Attorney General in conjuction with other National and State agencies looking into the broader issue of polygamy-based crimes will result in a huge ste forward. This has gone on long enough. As a religion, FLDS engages in underage marriages, throwing out the excess of boys based on their 3 wives to get in heaven belief, abuses the welfare system, takes jobs from others because they use underage workers, and so on. Past members have also alledged there is sexual abuse and sodomy of boys and that other children are physically abused to break them. Now, we hear those who live next to the ranch in El Dorado or surveiled by the FLDS with roaming jeeps and guns. Is this intimidation? It is hardly neccessary.

I respect a person's right to practice religion, but I object to what appears to be unrealistic isolation especially in regard to young people who are vulnerable to abuse and lack of understanding of individual rights and personal freedom of choice.

This cult is barbaric and it's absolutely ridiculous that it continues to thrive in this country. Seeing the Texas CPS workers doing their jobs and helping these people gives me hope that government officials in other communities like Colorado City will follow their example.
