The School Age Language Unit (S.A.L.U) has successfully supported children with speech and language difficulties for years. Support for such a complex additional need is best served in a part-time segregated environment. The Unit works in liaison with the children%u2019s mainstream school.
The children who have attended the Unit have progressed greatly via its support and specialised teaching. The Local Educational Authority wish to phase the Unit out in favour of Inclusion.
We (parents, relatives and friends of S.A.L.U. children) believe this will be detrimental to their education. The children and teachers views were never included in the consultation. The full council now decide the fate of the Unit, hence the reason for gaining your support. Help us to communicate to the councillors that S.A.L.U. should be maintained.
We request that Primary 1 pupils who would of, should of and could have been at the Unit since August 2008 be reinstated.
