SWITCHED LAB SPECIMEN

We the undersigned, on July 22, 2008, my 10 and 5 year old daughters were removed from our home due to a laboratory mix up at Harborview Medical Center of Seattle, Washington.  My daughters and I were seperated and they were interviewed without my presence.  The youngest was given a "rape kit" with me being presence and when I tried to refuse, I was told not to interfere or the children would be taken from my custody.
The laboratory decided that my daughter had sperm in her urine.  The social worker, at HMC, decided that we could not go home nor have any contact with anyone at home.  Mom could not go to work, because mom and dad worked at the same place.  Mom and daughters were told to find a motel room and not to go to relatives or a shelter.  I went through a list of over 100 groups to find help and was told no, because I wasn't in a shelter.  United Way - Salvation Army.  The
After 3 days, most authorities were not convinced of any "foul play".  Physical and medical proof were not there to back the labs findings.  It was found that laboratory had switched my daughter's lab specimen with someone else's specimen.
My daughters anguished through 3 unwarranted rape kits, 30 days out of their own home, watching mom stuggle to keep a roof over their head, and mom's mental state deteriate.  My daughters suffered mental and physical trauma.  The accused, dad and uncles, were in our home having home cooked meals, allowed to go to work, etc. However, dad and the uncles did swab voluntarily for the police.  Dad and the uncle's were also suffering from mental anguish. 
However, if you had spoken to the hospital's legal spokesperson, she would tell you as she did me, that my daughters only suffered mental anguish.   The hospital paid back the motel bills, but are fighting everything else - my and dad's loss of wages, etc. 
Through all of this my health diminished and has not returned.  Trust will always be an issue. 

When our family was thrown into this turmoil, we were not given any choices. I was told that either I allowed them to do the rape kits, etc, or my children would be removed from my custody and put into foster care. It was at that point that my daughter was raped by Harborview Medical Center. People say that the money cannot bring you peace. I do not know what could bring any parent, aunt, uncle, anyone peace after they witness their two daughters have rape kits done for absolutely nothing. Then to have the same entity tell you that the only done to us is psychological damage. Our family was cleared by the Police and CPS within 30 days, because of our family's cooperation and the lack of any physical evidence. BUT it isn't over. My daughters never feared their pediatrician - now they cry if they have to go to the doctor. They wonder if the doctor will come back in and remove us from our home again. I went to apply for a position at a school district that I worked for before. I worked with the autistic program. I now have to fill out a special notation - on the Criminal History Back ground check form - you see - even though I was cleared of any wrong doing - my name will now pop up in the CPS - DSHS systems and if I do not explain this I can/will be denied positions. Friends of my children are not allowed to come to our home anymore. Parents of these children avoiding me in public. You see - the psychological will never end. The physical drama will never go away. What did go away? The specimen that they tested. It quickly disappeared or didn't have enough left to test for DNA. This is according the head of the Sexual Trauma Group at HArborview. The list goes on. Just so you know, the law protects them.
Again I ask - whose specimen was it? Are they being raped/molested? Are they in a safe environment? Were they given a misdiagnosis?If you or someone you know was in Harborview Medical Center on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, and you gave a urine sample to be tested in their lab, please send us a letter asap.
I know my daughter - we were there from 9:00 a.m. until about 8:00 p.m. - was never treated for the original problem - UTI - we now have a kidney specialist appointment. My health hit rock bottom, because of all of this. All in all, we still have never heard we are sorry. Or - wow we what can we do to right the wrong. No, we continue to get communications that would scare anyone who has elementary school. Protect your family. Know your rights. Help to be a voice in your state's government - contact your state rep and help me to get something set up to protect the victim. There was and is no help for our family, because we are told this is not something than every family knows how to deal with. Lack of English - Education - I was fortunate enough to have enough of a law background to know where to start.
Please help those who cannot help themselves by going to your state elected officials.  Help me to push the State of Washington elected officials.  Rep. Claudi Kauffman and her staff have begun to help me, but I am also not sure to what extent.
I was not allowed to be with my daughters during their interrogations at the hospital, at the Sexual Assault group at HMC, nor at the Prosecuting Attorneys office.  I was told I couldn't and I find our civil rights were violated.  No one would step in to help me, because my civil rights case wasn't big enough for a national profile.  Please - help me to let these places know that it is time to take responsibility for their and their agent's responsibilities.
