Take Two Should Release Manhunt 2 with two ratings

UPDATE!
-----------

Unfortunately, more news has surfaced, and Nintendo and Sony have both stated that they do not allow AO rated games to be licensed on their platforms.  This effectively bans this software from being released anywhere.

A sad day for freedom of speech and anti-censorship advocates everywhere.

-----------

Manhunt 2 recently received an AO rating by the ESRB.  An AO rating is considered the "Kiss of Death" in the gaming world, because many large retail outlets refuse to carry AO games.  However, given the high-profile nature of this game, many feel that it can still sell well regardless of the rating that it receives.

To the executives at Take Two, we ask that you continue forward with releasing Manhunt 2 as-is.  While we understand that you need to make money on this game, we as gamers would like the opportunity to demonstrate that there is a market for AO rated games.  If you wish, continue forward with making changes to Manhunt 2 so that you can ensure that it gets distrubted as widely as possible, but please allow us the opportunity to purchase either version of the game by making both versions available.

The game is banned in England. Therefore I can't buy it anywhere, unless I get it from a different country. Its very unfair. Newspapers like the Daily Mail have brainwashed people into thinking that video games are evil. Most people won't try to hurt other people because they have played this game.

This is what we've been needing. A company to stand up to this "Protecting the kids" crap. If even legal adults are not able to purchase an AO game, the terrorists truly have won. Dont let that happen, T2.

There are many films with a lot of violence that are shown in the movies so why not premit a video with the same amount of violence.

Why ban a video game and yet there are movies such as Hostel and Saw. Also it's not as if video games influence emotions. Not everyone is going to go out and kill people just because they played a video game.

If there would be a game of saw it would be banned, the next saw movie would be accepted, i'd bet that for my life.

It's so sad we live in a world that is dictated by personal opinions, vendettas and morality. Morality is simply the attitude we adopt towards 'things' we personally dislike. Oscar Wilde said that and in this case I find it very true.

How many gamers is went outside killing people after playing manhunt? it's ridiculous, why ban a game, when you never heard any negative news after the release of the first series? it's the same game, different story, same blood, different atack?? I played the first manhunt and i don't turned into a Serial Killa.... I'll wait for Manhunt 2 :)

I work in the video game retail industry and I agree that ratings should be strictly upheld. However I don't believe for a second that a game should not be made due to a graphic natrue. The game industry is by far more strict in what gets sold to whom than the movie industry and yet we continue to have movies such as saw and hostel being made. I don't see the fairness in allowing one media platform the rights to publish an idea and not to allow another media platform those same rights.

Telling a society of coherent adults what they can and can't be entertained by especially in the form of a videogame is downright orwellian!

A failure to allow AO games in the market is an admission that the rating system as it stands is a joke. Choice is the hallmark of a free market.

I should have the right as an adult to pick what i deem offensive, this game is no more violent than any resident evil game and that is a 15 when you can shoot peoples heads clean off!!!

Yeah, I'm grown and shouldn't have the government tell ME what I can't see or play. Kids are the responsibility of parents, not the politicians.

i would probably never play this game as I never played MH1 however I do not believe that violent games have any detrimental effect on the mind of a healthy individual and therefore such people should be able to play whatever games they please. There is a similar petition for MH2 on the UK GOV Petition site.

The general population should have the decision as to what is and is not appropriate entertainment. While I agree the content of this game demands a rating that limits its exposure to minors, adults should be able to purchase and have unrestricted access to this game. Altering the game's content for the sake of getting a rating gives in to the psuedo-political decision to ban/censor the game and restrict its content. As this is clearly a violation of the developer's First Amendment Rights, I urge Take-Two to fight this unconstitutional act and release the game in its unaltered state. In addition, I would suggest that Take-Two Interactive sue the ESRB and bring the matter before the Supreme Court in an effort to expose their actions as unconstitutional. It's time for developers and gaming enthusiasts to make a stand to end this trend of impending cenorship to the gaming industry.

I don't think government, watchdog groups, and especially corporate retail outlets should decide what a grown man can play with. I think thig game should be released just to spite them. I never shop at walmart anyway; this is one of the reasons why.
