Today I learned that Amazon sells books that endorse and promote both
cock and dog fighting. Michael Vick case was sentenced to 23 months in prison and fined over a million dollars, yet Amazon continues to profit from the same subject!

Amazon says that "it is a censorship
matter"
This is not an acceptable response, they would not be telling the authors NOT TO WRITE the material, but that they would NOT SELL IT!!

We must tell Amazon this is not acceptable and that we will not do business with a company that will promote animal cruelty.

As Amazon feels they have the right to make money on these types of books, I too exercised my rights last year and stopped ordering from Amazon, until books on how to be cruel to animals are pulled.

I have been a customer of Amazon for a number of years and I hope to continue to be. I do not buy at Wal-Mart because of their practices. I do not want to buy from a company that sells dog fighting material. Please look at this issue. You have many fine products...do you really need to sell dog fightling materials. Look at the bottom line....does this line ear you a lot of money....this I do not know.

Dog fighting is a reprehensible act and needs to not only be outlawed but not condoned by you. To say you don't agree with it but every individual has a right to read what they want is still condoning it. I think you need to rethink your values and morals. People who dog fight also commit other violent crimes. Dog fighting is a felony in many states for a reason. Selling a book regarding this disgusting act is supporting it. If you are selling this book to a dog fighter, you are also selling it to a rapist, murderer or a drug dealer! You are selling it to people who attend dog fights with their small children! The de-sensitizes the children and creates a whole new generation of dog fighters. There is no good that can come from this. Stop selling the book.

While I agree with your point to allow as many people to choose their own type of reading materials, I really oppose your advertising books on dog fighting as it's both against the law here in America and very determental to certain breeds of dogs. Please consider (and I'm a customer) removing the advertising for these types of books. If youchoose to continue selling them, that's your business, I only request you not ADVERTISE it.

How can you justify selling books teaching people to fight dogs when dog fighting is clearly illeagle. Would you sell books teaching people how to commit murder, how to sexually abuse children etc. You will not receive any business from me my family or friends until these books are removed, you may not be able to stop co. from printing them but you sure can impact their sales by not selling them.

I would be one of the first people to support free speech and I also believe that censorship is something that should not exist in a free nation however.......censorhip is not the act of pulling offensive material by choice. I am appalled that Amazon.com is offering a book for sale that actually teaches people how to abuse animals in one of the most grotesque ways, dog fighting. Tell me, would you offer a book that teaches people how to lure children? I doubt it, not because you are being censored but because it is in bad taste. Censorship can lead to the erosion of rights and free will, but removing a title because it is offensive and wrong does nothing more than prove that we live in a civilized society, of which I would have liked to believe you were a part. Wake up Amazon and stop hiding behind the cause of "free speech". If you want to delve into political theory, haven't you ever heard of the Harm Principle??

I totally support freedom of speech and press, but that doesn't mean I support places I like to purchase goods from, if they cater to certain segments of the public that read publications that promote violence towards animals. If you're going to make "controversial works available in the United States and everywhere else, except where they're prohibited by law" why do you offer material condoning, explaining and illustrating dog fighting? FYI, dog fighting is prohibited by law. I am sure your response is that books explaining, condoning and illustrating animal abuse are not illegal. With the logic, you might as well show books depicting child or spousal abuse, and hide behind the first amendment because material depicting "how tos" on child or spousal abuse are not illegal. You know these aren't educational works. People get off on this type of violence and you are perpetuating the cycle. It's one thing to censor, it is something else entirely to be a responsible advertiser and distributor. When you get to the point where you'll take a buck from anywhere you can get it, you are not supporting the first amendment. You are hiding behind it. Shame on you. Enjoy your bonuses this year at the expense of other sentient beings whom you apparently believe are lessor than yourselves.

Why is it up to legislators to step in and outlaw objectionable material? The freedom to choose that you bandy about so often also applies to Amazon. Amazon has the freedom to choose not to promote such a piece of work. Have you no ability to discern the damage that such a book promotes? If not, then I think my next project should be a tell-all on how to destroy Internet book retailers and smear their reputations. Can I count on Amazon to promote this new book? Didn't think so.
