Riyoko Ikeda's "The Rose of Versailles" is one of the most influential manga of the 20th century. This is the first manga read by people in countries where it has been translated. When I went into a Japanese restaurant, the waitress (who was a Japanese immigrant) looked at the copy I had bought in the original language and said, "Oh! That's the first manga I've ever read!" I once started talking to a Chinese friend of mine and she said exactly the same thing. The manga is historical fiction about France at the time of Marie Antoinette with an added character, "Lady" Oscar. Oscar is a woman who was brought up as a man because of her position in the court of France. Because she was brought up this way, Oscar has problems identifying with her gender. This manga is one of the most influential comics to deal with gay rights. So tell Vertical Inc. publishing company to educate the young manga-readers with intelligent writing; tell America to keep away the sexist, idiotically written, poorly drawn manga of today.

We the undersigned have been very impressed with the manga you have chosen to publish. Your selections of Osamu Tezuka and Keiko Takemiya are an excellent beginning to bringing back the better days of manga. This is why we have chosen to write to your publishing company on the following matter: we think that Riyoko Ikeda's The Rose of Versailles should be translated into English, as well. As dedicated readers of manga and literature, we feel that this manga is an extremely important piece because of the issues it deals with and its excellent writing. We would like to change the road that manga is riding down; we would like to bring it back to the days of Tezuka when real issues were discussed and the drawings were easily considered an art from. The new generation no longer appreciates what the great artists of the twentieth century had to offer. Please help change this.

Vertical Inc., is corrupt to the core!! Ridiculous Pork barrel Policy Twisting Fanatics!! We Will All Distribute This Page to Big Media and Start Letting those “Useless Talking Heads on TV News” know what’s really worth reporting to the world… I’m sickened and disgusted. I Beg all Intelligent and Responsible People to Please Stop Letting This Happen STILL.. We've got to eliminate Hate of the GLBT Community, and this is a wonderful way to get everyone more aware of the fact that we need everyone's help.. We will get all those Ridiculous Pork barrel Policy Twisting Hate Fanatics to grow up and stop Hating & SPREADING “HATE FOR GAYS”.. I will be working until I die to take care of these people through my online influences and I hope you do to. They say they are not Homophobic but they are worse, they are Big Animal Eating, war promoting, Conservative Religious Fundamentalist Homophobes fighting Against Dignity & Human Rights and they're encouraging to many others to also be that way by denying us Equal/Civil Rights.. Who do they think they are "Jesus or God". Poor Jesus, He's flipping in his grave while poor God is Hopelessly Crying for us all. With more and more people protesting Against Gay & Lesbian Equal Rights to get married and call it marriage, will you be helping Us or Them? Please do the right thing, and stand up for our equal rights when ever you can, because staying silent is like helping them. Separate but equal will no longer be tolerated. Those who have taken advantage of Gays & Lesbians (all or through half of their life time) but never Fight for our Rights need to give back. Here is the perfect opportunity.. Sign this petition, Stand up (or write letters/sign petitions) Against Prop 8 and all Legislation & Government Laws; as well as Doctors, Businesses, Organizations and publishing companies, that encourage hate of glbt‘s everywhere. If not for me then for yourselves, and if not for yourselves then for the millions of others in the world who know how denying us freedom to marry, will deny many others from different cultures and races (straight and gay, animal & human) the freedom of many other things that they care about also. In Perfect Love And Perfect Trust, Arresting All Who Discriminate Against Us, Is a Must… So Mote It Be.

I am fortunate enough to have spent a few years in Japan and so have been able to read this manga in its original language. I would like to be able to discuss it with my friends who have not had the same advantage. This is one work that shows the full potential of manga to be intelligent and daring.
