Dear Prime Minister Rudd,
I'm worried about the impact that climate change will have on the future of my family. I want Australia to be a leader on climate change- and I believe we need a much stronger response to the climate crisis if we are to achieve this.
The worlds best climate scientists tell us that there is already too much greenhouse pollution in the atmosphere, and that we need to get back to levels of less that 350ppm (parts per million) as soon as possible. Already over 40 countries around the world have already signed up to this target.
I know this will be hard to do, but I believe that it's imperative and I'm willing to play my part.
An alliance of reef and climate scientists recently said that to give the Great Barrier Reef a greater that 50/50 chance of survival that we need to cut emissions by at least 25% by the year 2020.
I do not support your 5-25% target and call on you to implement a 25-40% cut in emissions by 2020 but preferably 50%. %uFFFDI also call on you to cut all HFC's gases emissions by 2020. HFC's of F-gases are super greenhouse gases that are used to cool our drinks, cars and buildings, they must be phased out.
I'm calling on the Australian government to go to December's global climate meeting in Copenhagen committed to taking sweeping action to make deep cuts in our greenhouse pollution, help us live more sustainably, and begin the transition towards a clean energy future.%uFFFD
