It is now well established that shipping amphibians into, out of and within the USA has helped to spread 2 deadly amphibian diseases- Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) and Ranavirus. Bd infections have reached epidemic proportions, affecting approximately 350 amphibian species and causing the decline or extinction of at least 250 species.
The decline and extinction of frogs is one problem, another is that they often are released into the wild, then becoming an invasive species, often endangering animals native to a particular ecosystem.
There is some question whether frogs make good pets, but there should be no question as to whether or not frogs are "toys". Teach children to respect the environment and animals and stop selling mail order frogs out of a toy catalouge.
