Demand Costco STOP selling "Swim with the Dolphins" tickets for Six Flags!

"Swim with the dolphins" programs have increased the demand for captive dolphins.  Dolphins are intelligent, social animals that should be left in the oceans.  Studies have shown that dolphins in captivity have a reduced lifespan, living 40 years in the wild compared to 10 years or less in captivity.  50% die in less than 7 years.  Boredom can lead to premature death as well as chlorine poisoning and stress-related illnesses.
In the ocean, dolphins swim up to 40 miles a day in a straight line, spending 80% of their time below the surface, exploring, hunting, and socializing.  In a tank, with concrete walls, dolphins are forced to swim repetitive circles, spending only 20% of their time underwater in their shallow tanks.  No tank can compare to the freedom of the ocean.
Dolphins should not be forced to live a life of slavery for human amusement.  "Swim with the dolphins" programs are rarely educational but, more often, fueled by profit.  The demand for these programs helps to keep the captive dolphin trade alive.  Dolphins do not breed well in captivity thus increasing the demand for wild capture dolphins.
By selling discount tickets to "Swim with the Dolphins" programs, Costco is encouraging and supporting dolphin captivity.  Let's tell them to stop!
