Happy & tired dogs = Happy people

Thanks to the City of Troy for Beman Park's New Dog Park

Target:
The City Council of Troy, NY, Mayor Harry Tutunjian, Deputy Mayor Dan Crawley, et al.
Sponsored by:
We, the undersigned, wish to thank the City of Troy, NY, its City Council, and all those in city government responsible for the creation of the Beman Park Dog Park.

In the words of the American Kennel Club, the creation of a dog park benefits and serves the entire public, as follows:

"Allows dogs to exercise and socialize safely. Puppies and adult dogs need room to run, and enclosed play areas permit them to do so while preventing them from endangering themselves and others (for example, by running into the path of an oncoming vehicle). In addition, dogs who are accustomed to playing with animals and people other than their owners are more likely to be well-socialized and react well toward strangers.

"Promotes responsible dog ownership. Dog parks prevent off-leash animals from infringing on the rights of other community residents and park users such as joggers, small children, and those who may be fearful of dogs. Parks also make it easier for a city to enforce its leash laws, as resident dog owners with park access have no reason to allow their canine companions off-leash when outside of the park.

"Provides an outlet for dog owners to socialize. Dog parks are a great place for owners to meet other people with common interests. The love people share for their dogs reaches beyond economic and social barriers and helps to foster a sense of community. Park users also benefit from the opportunity to ask questions of other owners and find solutions to problems they might be having with their pet.

"Make for a better community by promoting public health and safety. Well-exercised dogs are better neighbors who are less likely to create a nuisance, bark excessively and destroy property. Their presence in the park, along with their owners, also helps to deter crime."

For being progressively-minded and acting upon the ability to inclusively extend the City of Troy's recreational space, we, again, thank YOU.

I think this is a wonderful addition to Beman Park and the neighborhood at large!

My dog, Comma, loves running around the dog parks. Since we live in South Troy, it's difficult to get her enough exercise just from her daily walks. To this end, we (Comma and I) appreciate the dog parks immensely, and consider them an integral part of the various neighborhoods around Albany County.

Having a dog park in Beman Park was a great idea. It is a real benefit for all users of the park - dog owners, dogs, and the dog-averse.

Coming from a city, Chicago, that promotes dog parks I can attest to the important of socializing dogs. They are better controlled, less aggressive, and it allows neighborhood children to visit and become accustomed to being around these animals. One child who was initially afraid of dogs ended up starting his own dog walking business during the summer. If the issue of concern for the concerned citizen is upkeep or similar item then ask the interested signatories to take care of the park, you won't have any difficulty.

I never imagined a dog park in Troy. It reflects the progress of the city as a potential modern community meeting the needs of it's residents. Why would they get rid of it?

They just opened this park! The dogs of downtown Troy do not have ANY space to run and socialize. Dog parks are a wonderful, healthy social space. Please keep it going.

I have been going to school in Troy for years and the dog park was one of my favorite places in Troy. It is a resource and a special offer you have to a variety of people and pet owners. The loss of pet access to Beman Park would keep me from returning to Troy as a past resident, and from recommending it to friends.

What would be the point of closing a dog park? Keep the dog parks for all those dog owners and their happy pets. Imagine the unhappiness if they didn't have someplace to go and play with other canine......

There are no open areas for dogs in Troy, and this directly effects their health (via exercise) and socialization/temperament. I think this is a wonderful idea, and it causes little (if no) impact on the taxpayer and takes up a small area of the park that has been neglected for years. Local residents have taken it upon themselves to make use of this park in a way that benefits dog owners. Let's try to move this city forward, as opposed to constantly fighting progression.

There should be more dog parks in troy and the capital district. So many people have dogs but almost all of them live in apartments with either out a back yard or a very small one. I have 2 myself and after just moving back from houston texas where they are dog parks everywhere this is kind of upsetting. Lets move forword Troy. Help our friends out.

Thank you so much for keeping this dog park open. I firmly believe that multipurpose and multi-use public spaces not only increase property values, they have the potential to catalyze community development through interpersonal interactions of varying and multiplicitous degrees, creating opportunities for community growth, public education, health, and creative interaction.

Taking away the dog park, will just promote irresponsible dog ownership. People need a place to let their dogs socialize and run around off leash with other dogs. This helps the dogs interact well with strange people and animals alike and prevents the dogs from becoming mean and aggressive!

Thank you to the City of Troy. The addition of this dog park only adds the the sense of the neighborhood that the Beman Park area has been working so hard to maintain. Thank you for your support and understanding of the need for our pets!
