U.S. journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling were captured by North Korean border guards on March 17th, 2009, tried behind closed doors and sentenced to 12 years of "hard labor" in North Korea for crossing the border. These courageous women were reporting on the issue of human trafficking along the North Korea border with China when they were captured.
People around the world took up their cause and called for their release - almost 90,000 signed the petition on Care2. And on August 5th, after a successful diplomatic mission to North Korea, former President Bill Clinton returned home with Euna Lee and Laura Ling.
We are all eternally grateful to Clinton for negotiating the release of these brave journalists. Join us in sending a quick note of thanks to Clinton for helping to return Euna Lee and Laura Ling home to their families!
