The Augie Asphalt Assault

Target:
Mountain Biking Community and College Students
Sponsored by:

If passed the Augie Asphalt Assault would be one of the first all urban downhill races in the country. Set to take place on the beautiful Augustana College Campus in Rock Island, IL, the race would take 50 riders from all over the country and pin them in a time trial event featuring almost 20 staircases and many twists and turns.

If passed, this would be a huge step for mountain biking. I would love to race a course like this if I only had the chance.

It would be great to see an event like this come to the Midwest, it would bring a positive image to freeride in the Midwest as well as the school for supporting such an overlooked sport.

This could be a super cool event. It would be a great way for a University/College to target a demographic that they maybe never thought of. Red Bull has sponsored events like this before...who drinks Red Bull? Young people who might be making decision of where they'll attend school.

Cycling, in all it's forms, is quickly becoming a huge sport and the most popular recreational activity. Why would we deny the chance for our Cities to be the first to host a new type of cycling event? Look around as you drive home, count how many cyclists you see on the road. You may be suprised at how many of us their are! Mountain bike paths are being put in to most every park in the area, Rock Island has started adding biking lanes to repaved roads......it's here. Lets promote it!

With the proper planning and execution any event is possible. This urban downhill race will draw much interest because of its location in an urban area and draw publicity to an outdoor activity as well as to the college - showing that you are willing to work toward helping young people get outside.

Hello, I am the MORC (Minnesota Off Road Cyclist) Bike Patrol Director and I support this event fully. Mountain Biking is a great way for our youth to get out, excercise, and be involved in the community building trails for all to enjoy. Events like these support the sport, the environment, and the communities they are held in.

I am the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) representative for Southern Minnesota. This event would reach a user group that currently does not have a venue for its activities. I support this activity and would like to see approval given. Tim
