Incompetence is unacceptable. Incompetent employees face unemployment; incompetent businesses and institutions face bankruptcy. Our elected Congressional Representatives and Senators are incompetent. Only 9% of Americans approve of Congress, yet individual politicians are reelected term after term because we do not hold individual Senators and Representatives accountable for the failures of the greater institution. It is time for that to change.
In response to the latest proof of Congressional ineptitude (the failure of the so-called Super Committee to reach any compromise or subsequent debt reduction), We The People propose the 28th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, The Throw the Bums Out Amendment.[1]
It shall subject the entire United States Congress to collective recall by special recall election. Individual Congressional seats will no longer be safe. If there is enough momentum among the electorate to circulate petitions and vote for Collective Recall, the entire Congress will face expulsion. New elections will be held to replace members. We The People believe that individual politicians need to be accountable, not only to their districts, but also to the electorate, as a whole. We believe that the Throw the Bums Out Amendment will act as the consequence for ineptitude, stubbornness, and conflicts of interest that is currently missing in Washington.
[1] Details and language to follow. We The People will work on requirements for Collective Recall as momentum for this change grows.
