Tobacconists are hard working business owners who chose to own and run a busness out of their passion for cigars. Nobody today would reasonably think that owning a cigar or smoke shop is an easy way to make money. Quite the contrary. A good tobacconist must have ample inventory for the wide tastes of the consumer, a comfortable lounge where consumers and enjoy their purchases and a host of other accessories and products to meet the ever growing demand. To ban smoking in their own shops is about as ridiculous as banning coffee drinking in a Starbucks. Please stop trying to legislate our lifestyle choices. Any one entering a smoke or tobacco shop should reasonable assume that there will be smoking in that shop and should accept the responsibility that goes with that choice.

It's time to stop persecuting smokers, we know the effects of smoke for our health but we still chose to do whatever we want, that's our right, and we don't need law makers to help us quit when nobody has ask for their help. In New York feels like you can't smoke anywhere, now the tobacco products are much expensive than ever before, STOP THEM TRYING TO STOP US

This is another prime example of the government overstepping the bounds created by our founding fathers. The argument for banning smoking in public restaurants is that the smoking bothers some of the non-smoking guests. While this ban should be decided by the owner of the restaurant it has some truth in it: that some guests may be annoyed/disgusted by the smoke. Unfortunately, this cannot be said for anyone that enters a cigar shop. Why would anyone enter a cigar shop if they are bothered by the smell of burning tobacco? There was a reason why people left Europe to come to the 'New World' to live... it was freedom from an oppressive government.

There has already been too much regulation of the tobacco industry and the right's of adults to smoke. When will the government start working on unenployement and housing issues which are much more important?

Is this not America?? Should retailers have rights? Of course! Why should the government interfere by denying passionate consumers the right to smoke in retail tobacconist stores? This should definitely be up to the retailer. And any consumer entering a tobacco shop should be open to smoking in the store. Support the Tobacconist Preservation Act!!!!

OK, so you got your SCHIPs bill passed. Now you want to prohibit smoking in tobacco shops? Good way to kill your own efforts. Good way to ruin business. If you want this taxation method to work, you must allow the commerce to continue. Fact: An important part of attaining revenue from tobacco, is smoking. Smoking in the tobacco shop is essential for the growth of this revenue. So please, use common sense and do not encroach upon the tobacconist, nor on the rights of the smokers!

Personal responsibility and choice needs to be the main factor with any business - YOU have a choice to enter a smoking establishment or not; owners have a CHOICE to make their businesses smoking or smoke free. Government should not place itself in dictating personal choice and responsibility.

A cigar shop should have the right to allow its cutomers to smoke in their shops. If people don't want to smell the smoke they don't have to enter the shops.

The cigar industry and working as a tobacconist has changed my life for the better and has become my life. Please help preserve and protect our trade and passion and keep this art form alive and well. We already get taxed more and discriminated more than any other industry; if we're willing to turn over so much funding on every level of government, at least let us enjoy the product.

Smoker's rights are narrowing to the point of non-existance. Most cities in KY have already banned smoking in bars and lounges. To continue the restriction to the shops is not acceptable. I am not even a regular smoker...I have a cigar occasionally, but I am certainly a regular voter!!!

Since when does the Government have the right to tell us what we can and can't do in the privacy of our homes and tobacco shops. That's why they are called "tobacco shops" because that's where people like us gather for comradeship with our fellow smokers.
Mabey the government should worry more about it's own mess it has created than prying into what everybody else is doing. We need to send a clear message to these people that we have the Right to smoke and NO ONE should be able to tell us otherwise. They should also remember that their terms aren't forever and they can be voted out of a job!
