Third Anniversary of Katrina

Target:
1000
As they undertake one of the most daunting disaster recovery efforts this nation has ever seen, the people of St. Bernard have very practical needs. They need laundry facilities so they can keep themselves and their children clean. They need phones so they can maintain contact with family members scattered across the country. They need internet connections so they can find information about rebuilding their businesses and their homes. They need a centralized location for services so they can receive donated supplies and assistance easily and with dignity. And they need a place to come together daily to enjoy a hot, nutritious meal and share their ongoing frustrations and successes with their neighbors. The Community Center of St Bernard is dedicated to providing hurricane survivors with the recovery resources they need in a safe and all-inclusive setting.

I have been to the area twice. I can't believe how much difference there is in the recovery, especially between downtown New Orleans and the 9th Ward. I was so impressed; after visiting with Iray, with the grassroots effort of the community center. I am spreading the word at my workplace-Springfield,VT High School hoping to add more voices and care to this special place. I would really like to be down there right now. Thank you. Mary Schaefer

there isn't nearly enough support in new orleans as there needs to be and this would bring the community one step closer to rebuilding the WHOLE new orleans area.

I have seen where people are living and how they are being treated. I'm ashamed at the human race for letting things get to this point. It should not be a question that we should take care of one another.

There was a time when the U.S. Government -- say, under F.D.R. -- had the common sense to act on its own initiative to relieve the suffering of those in need. The American voter appears to have lost his common sense and humanity and instead elected insensitive and incompetent leaders to Congress and to the Executive Branch for too many years. If this is what Reagan-Bush Compassionate Conservatism looks like, those of you who continue to vote Republican are no different than those damnable fools who would blindly follow an ego-maniacal Leader into war because it is the patriotic thing to do. Your blind stupidity has wrought havoc and hell for tens of thousands in the wake of Katrina. You do not deserve to be described in the same terms as those that you in your ignorance and callousness continue to ignore: as Americans. Domenic Corsaro Philadelphia, PA
