Tiger Temple Thailand Saviors Or Savages

Tiger Temple Thailand Saviors Or Savages

Target:
Mr Chalermsak Wanichsombat Director General National Park,  Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department  Thailand

The Tiger Temple at Wat Pa Luangta Bua Yannasampanno Forest Monastery, Kanchanaburi, Thailand has become a popular tourist destination that attracts hundreds of international visitors each day. The Tiger Temple's success is based around claims that its tigers were rescued from poachers and live and move freely and peacefully amongst the temple's monks, who profess to be actively engaged in conservation and rescue work.

Prompted by concerns raised by tourists and Tiger Temple volunteer workers, Care for the Wild International's (CWI) investigation uncovered disturbing evidence of serious conservation and animal welfare concerns,

including:- illegal tiger trafficking
- systematic physical abuse of the tigers held at the Temple
- high risk interations between tigers and tourists and
- the unchallenged import and export of at least twelve tigers to and from the Tiger Temple across the border with Laos, without the necessary permits.

We express to you our concerns about the high risk interactions between the tigers and tourists, captive breeding and transborder movements, and the physical abuse of the tigers by the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi. And about the facility's claims to support tiger conservation. The Temple facility, has no credible connection with accredited conservation breeding programmes that are deemed to support the survival of wild tigers.

The Temple does not have the facilities, the skills, the relationships with accredited zoos, or even the desire to manage its tigers in an approriate fashion. Instead, it is motivated both in display of the tigers to tourists and in its illegal trading of tigers purely by profit.

Steve Irwin Wildlife Warriors

We appeal to you most strongly to remove all tigers from the Tiger Temple and transfer them to a more suitable and safe sanctuary facility, where the animals can be accommodated and cared for appropriately and that will not allow for additional breeding. Care for the Wild International has identified a suitable facility in Thailand and is offering its full support for this operation.

We also urge the DNP to conduct a full independent investigation into the illegal breeding and exchange of tigers.

We the undersigned, Thank You in advance for your consideration and all your government has already done to safeguard the future of wild tigers.

I have been a volunteer in the temple and have seen abuse, inappropriate living conditions of the tigers and the constant flow of people interacting with even very young cubs. These animals are magnificent, they deserve a better life, help give them that!!

Return wild animals to the wild. Leave wild animals in the wild. If wild animals cannot be returned to the wild, they must be placed in sanctuaries where they can live like animals. THESE MAGNIFICENT BEASTS ARE NOT PROPS. This is despicable and it must stop. The 'people' who do this and the 'people' who pay them are pitiful examples of humanity who cannot be trusted to make any good decisions. Sheesh. Please put a stop to this now.

I am so glad this has come to light. I visited the tigers in September this year and whilst the tiger is one of my favourite animals I had some concern about their habitat and the huge number of tourists, lots of money being handed over and for what...to line the monks pockets - it doesn't seem right at all especially if they call themselves buddhists.

I visited the "Temple" 2yrs ago and was concerned then that it was just a moneymaking venture, but now to find out that they deal in tiger parts and are animal abusers - these men are criminals not monks.

I visited the tiger temple in 2005 and believed it to be for the care and good of the tigers. However, now I realise I was wrong and have heard the tigers are abused and sold as tiger part. Please put these beautiful creature into safe keeping before it's too late.

I cannot stand the thought of these poor tigers being used for the sake of the rotten dollar. Once again, people. especially monks(!!) are using these precious endangered animals for their own benefit and tricking tourists into believing they care about them when they really don't!!!! This disgusts me. Gail Browning.

You are not monks, you are evil humans, you must respect the amazing wild tigers, when I saw you in NatGeo I thought you were helping but you are just interested in money and use the tigers for your own benefit, Leave the tigers alone fake monks, Karma will come for you....think about it !!
