Time for Canada to change the Justice System

Target:
Canadian Government
Sponsored by:
I am writing this as a tribute to a little angel who doesn%u2019t have a voice, but who needs one. This is for Abbygail Elizabeth Dice and any other children that have been killed or hurt at the hands of other people.

We, the undersign, are asking the Canadian government, the Prime Minister, and the representatives of the country to pass a law that would help protect children from all kinds of child abuse. Such abuse includes murder, rape, sexual assault, sexual interference, molestation, abduction, kidnapping, neglect or any form of child abuse that is out there. Not enough is being done. When you turn on the television or open your newspaper, how many times do you hear about another child who has been hurt at the hands of someone that is supposed to be taking care of them?

Canada needs a website set up so that the public can find out where a sexual offender is registered. It shouldn%u2019t matter the severity of the crime that the offender did. The offender did a crime to a child and therefore shouldn%u2019t be allowed the chance to take more innocence away. You can%u2019t tell me that people don%u2019t re-offend. I know of an offender who was found guilty of sexual assault against a minor and received 18 months probation. Just before his probation was done, he turned around and raped two younger children. The justice system not only failed the first victim, but failed to protect those two younger children. And for what, because he said he would never do it again and that he was sorry?

The accused shouldn%u2019t have as many rights as they do. They have taken away someone else%u2019s rights to a life. Rather, it being taking someone%u2019s innocence away, brutally beating and abusing someone, or taking there lives away from them. Why should the accused be allowed to have a life free and living like nothing happened? There is a story out in the world right now, Abbygail Elizabeth Dice, a little girl that didn%u2019t get the chance to live her life at all. Only a month old when she disappeared. The mother is the only suspect in this case. She has been charged with indignity to a body. Abbygail is gone, and here the mother is sitting free and clear with a couple of stupid rules on her. No firearms in her possession and she can%u2019t move without the courts permission. Here she sits enjoying every single day of life, taking walks, going out shopping, spending time with her family and friends. What about her daughter Abbygail?

Abbygail is gone, no one is giving answers to her whereabouts. How is this fair? Abbygail isn%u2019t enjoying the simple things of life because someone took them away from her. The only suspect that has been charged in her disappearance is walking around free and clear, and just having to go to the court house once a month, or when the judge wants her to.

How much does this cost the taxpayer? For someone to come into the court house and just remand it to another day? The judge, crown attorney and any court officers have to be paid for each and every single day that this goes on, and this person gets freedom, as her daughter doesn%u2019t get the same respect.

Why does the justice system seem to care more about the defendant than the victim? This isn%u2019t how it should be. It should be that the victim gets more respect then the defendant gets. If it wasn%u2019t for the defendant doing whatever he/she was accused of, the case wouldn%u2019t be in the courtrooms, would it?

Depending on the case, if the accused has prior convictions of abusing a child, it should be taken into consideration not to allow the accused to be around children without supervision. The accused took the rights away from a child, so why should he/she be allowed any more rights than that child?

It is just this simple: abuse hurts. It doesn%u2019t matter what kind of abuse it is, it hurts and it affects the child and the families involved. Not just the day it happens, but for the rest of their lives. And worse case is that the child is killed at the hands of someone that is supposed to love, nurture and care for them.

Today, in a world where we are battling terrorism and wars, many people forget that there are so many children who are missing, abducted, kidnapped, being murdered at the hands of their caregivers, parents and grandparents, being raped and molested, and all this has to be a higher priority within the government. Act now to highlight the problem of our children%u2019s future and make this world a safer earth for our children.

These children are the future.
They matter.
Help keep them safe and tell them that our government says that this behaviour isn%u2019t going to be tolerated anymore.

This needs to be changed also, I don%u2019t think this is right:
One of the things that I am thinking is the issue is you do a crime and look how well you get it in jail. Jail isn't a punishment if you are going there and getting more privilages than us, the taxpayers, that are paying for the accused while they are in there.

Look at Karla Homolka. This lady got an education on us. She was in jail for killing those young girls with her husband Paul Bernado. So where is the punishment?

Mr. Harper, as a Canadian citizen we have had enough, and we want you as the leader of our country to please stand up and do the right thing and change the laws for our children, to protect them. To say that enough is enough and our justice system needs to be changed. Health conditions shouldn%u2019t keep a person out of jail. Too many people use that as an excuse for what they did. For what, so that they can get off and walk away free? If you do the crime you do the time. No excuses. Actions have consequences. Now it is time for the Canadian government to show people that they are going to make offenders responsible for their actions.

The justice system in this country has failed the most innocent - our children. Offenders in some cases are found not guilty while in other cases they are given a slap on the hand. This can not and should be allowed to continue. Our court system is set up to protect the rights of the accused. Something has to change. Help the children!

For all of the children hurt, maimed, killed in circumstances beyond anything considered accidental, please make certain that life in prison means life in prison. Better yet, bring back the death penalty. Think of Karissa Boudreau.

It seems strange to me that we need to circulate a petition to protect our children, is this not something that should just "be"...??? When, and how did this world come to what it is today, my girls are 4 & 5 and I'am terrified for them, every person who see's this petition has to sign it, it is time to take and stand and protect our future and our children's future, we are a nation of strong and loving people, for the most part, one voice is not enough we need all the voices to speak up and be heard..Lets not stand idle any longer...God Bless all the children of voilence and abuse...

People has to start paying for their crimes, not just a slap on the wrist. When the victims can't speak it's time the public stood up for them.

Children are precious and should have the right to a life free from harm! Unfortunately while sick monsters are free to roam and carry out these crimes then our children will never be free from harm! There needs to be a deterrent!

I am a survivor of 11 years of sexual abuse! This ruined my childhood and the Canadian Justice System sentenced the perpetrator to only 18 months!!!!!! Had I been a stranger, and it had of been a one time offense, he would have gotten 5 years!

If the children are our future .. then why does our government care so little about them? Why do we continue to tell our children that they are the most important resource we have, only to send them the message that when people hurt them ... they're free in a ridiculously short amount of time to hurt them, and others, again?

I am sick of watching the news, only to hear that another innocent child has lost their life at the hands of someone who was suppose to love and care about them..Canada's Justice System where child protection laws are inplace are failing our children terribly! Child Abusers should stay locked up for life, so that they cannot get out and do it again! I am sick of hearing that these animals have rights! What about our children's rights?????? Why are the rights of children being overlooked, and the rights of these criminals being upholded????? ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!

Canada's current child protection laws, are just not working for our Countries Children anylonger, they need to make child preditors stay in jail for life so that they do not just get out of jail and go right back to recommit the exact same crime the were sent to jail for in the first damn place! Canada's government is failing to protect the innocence of our children,by allowing these animals back out into society! Time to step up Canada and protect your future!

We also need to have a Sex Offender Registry that is made available to the public, so that we as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles ect.ect..can do what we can, once we know where these offenders are, so that we can protect our children in a better fashion! Child Abusers need to stay locked up so that they can no longer ever hurt our innocent children! When is the Canadian Government going to realize that doing jail time is not a cure for child predators, they all are released back into society, to recommit thier horrific crimes on our children, and I am begging you, Mr. Harper and the Canadian Justice Minister to implement these changes to the Canadian Justice System, so that one day our Children will never have to live in fear again!!!! Until you pass new CHILD PROTECTION LAWS we will rally and protest until you do! It's time for the CANADIAN GOVERNMENT TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND PROTECT IT'S CHILDREN!! AND KEEP CHILD PREDATORS IN PRISON FOR LIFE, SO THAT ANOTHER CHILDS LIFE ISN'T TAKEN! Sincerely Paula Cuthbertson

They say the jails and prisons are overcrowded...so what. Build more jails, make the rooms smaller. I don't care. I don't think that we should have to live in fear all the time. There are times that i have to walk home at 4 in the morning when i get off work. It's only a couple blocks, but it's terrifying. I have a 15 yr. old daughter and a 17 yr. old son and it scares me when i don't have them in my sights. Just them walking to school anymore makes me extremely nervous. Harsher punishments are needed. I also believe the young offenders act should be removed when it comes to violent acts. Too many youths are out there committing henious crimes because they know they can get away with it. If they Y.O.Act was abolished when it comes to violent crime and they had to face the charges as an adult, they might think twice before committing the crime. I also believe the death penalty should be brought back for murderers.
