Speak Loud, Speak Volumes! Tougher Laws for Animal Abuse!

The purpose of this petition is to show Virginia Legistlators that we want tougher laws passed to show that Virginians will not tolerate animal abuse.  Tougher laws and tougher penalties will help crack down on the senseless abuse that animals face each day by ingnorant owners.  Additionally, we will show that we fully support HB1930and House Bill 2013 Establishing an Animal Abuse Registry (Patron-Marshall, D.W).  We believe it will play a vital role in eliminating repeat abusers. Also support HB2195- Devocalization of Cat and Dogs (Patron-Hope & Abbott).  We believe that this is an inhumane procedure and should not be an option for pet owners.  We would also like your support for HJ Resolution 0057-Establishing a subcommittee to oversee animal abuse case (domestic) (Patron-Griffith).  We believe that and as cited in the proposed resolution that the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs has a heavy case load and may not be able to handle cases in the best interest of the animals.  Let"s show our government that we mean business and show them that tougher laws need to be in place.  In most cases, animal abuse w/ our w/out result in death is a Class 1 Misdemeanor, rearly are felony charges applied.  Jail time is little or none and fines well may not be collected at all.

We the undersigned would like to see tougher laws in place to deter animal neglect, torture and abuse resulting in death.  Most cases at best receive the minimum penalty and are rarely considered a felony.  Most cases at best are classified as a Class 1 Misdemeanor.  We desperately need an amendment to Admin Code 3.1-796.122.  We need to stand up and be the voice for those who are voiceless.  If we don't speak up for them, then who will.

We also are in support for HB1930 & 2013 Establishing an Animal Abuse Registry (Patron-Marshall, D.W). (Both HB's & HRJ failed to move and are currently "resting" in the Court of the Justice- 2/8/11)
