Montgomery County, Texas TRAILS

Help us build TRAILS in Montgomery County, Texas

Target:
Elected Officials of Montgomery County, Texas

This is a Petition which will demonstrate how enthusiastic we are about having walking/biking TRAILS in Montgomery County, Texas.

Help us plan, create, and maintain TRAILS in areas that are "sitting idle" between, and in, our communities. With some good long-term planning, and short-term ingenuity, our County can be a better place to live, work, and play........

Help us plan, create, and maintain TRAILS  in areas that are sitting idle between, and in, our communities. With some good long-term planning, and short-term ingenuity, our County can be a better place to live, work, and play.

Some sitting idle properties possibly could be flood control ditches and gas/electrical line right-of-ways. Maybe with some good negotiations, and the right frame work, such long-term contracts could be arranged to the benefit of all parties.

Possibly after a few small sections are built, a long-term strategy could be developed. Then conceivably, grant proposals could be mailed out to fund the rather not-so-expensive projects. More possibilities are that volunteers could do the work, while using the proper equipment and supplies.
As sections are built, it should be up to the private sector to gather volunteer individuals and businesses to keep up with the maintenance. There are many government organizations, even locally, that have made agreements with groups to do similar projects. Many TRAILS have already been built, and are running. This Petition Sponsorer, http://www.mctrails.com/ hopes to develop its website, and its organization, so all kinds of information could be available at one central location.

Our nations children do not get enough clean, healthy exercise. Children, Adults and our Elderly, all need places to go facilitate that in order to build a healthier, happy community.

I live along a flood control ditch. Seeing so many kids and families use this area to hike, jog and bike, I personally maintain the area behind my fence. I also mow a path through the high grass from the dead end street where many enter along the ditch to another concrete path already built. Why the concrete path wasn't extended the length of the ditch is beyond me. This "trail" is a shortcut to my neighborhoods park, playground and aquatics facilities. It allows our kids a safer option than traveling the busy streets of our neigborhood. I see just as many people using the opposite side of the ditch as well. It only makes sense to have formal and maintained hike and bike trails along these already well used paths.
