The UN needs to be significantly strengthened and democratized to solve our key global problems and establish an effective international rule of law. The World Alliance is calling for the UN to hold a Charter Review Conference, under Article 109, to do so

Transforming the UN thru a UN Charter Review Conference

PETITION TO RENEW THE UNITED NATIONS AND FULFILL THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

We the Peoples of these United Nations...

Determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which continues to result in the deaths of millions of people (primarily civilians, women, and children) in violation of both the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights;

Recalling our common and shared obligation to ensure that all peoples%u2019 fundamental human rights are met;

Seeking to establish, after 60 years, the conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations of international treaties and law can and will be carried out and maintained;

And demanding that Article 28 of the Universal Declaration, which states that everyone has the right to a Social and International Order under which these basic human rights are indeed met, be fulfilled;

We thus call upon our governments to organize and hold a UN Charter Review Conference in order to determine the extent to which the United Nations and its Member States do indeed live up to, or fail to live up to, the mandates and obligations of its foundational documents -- the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights -- along with the international treaties, agreements, and conventions that they have adopted and ratified.

In addition, the UN Charter Review Conference and Process should gather input and consider how the UN could be significantly strengthened and democratized in order to fulfill its commitments and obligations, welcoming the contributions and active and full participation of all people and civil society in the process. After all it is our world and lives that the UN and its Member States have continued to fail to protect, resulting in the ongoing suffering for millions or should we say billions of people. And it is time that this must change.

Until the UN does decide to hold a UN Charter Review Conference, as called for under Article 109 of its Charter, and takes the steps needed to strengthen and democratize the organization, and/or fully funds and implements the programs and initiatives that have been agreed to, then civil society must take the lead to hold its own Charter Review Conferences and Process. We the undersigned representatives of civil society will thus put forward our own proposals for what must be done to actually fulfill the mandates, obligations, and commitments that have been made by the United Nations.

We resolve, therefore, to do everything in our power to fulfill our obligations -- included in the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and shared with the Member States -- to take progressive measures, both national and international, to ensure that all peoples%u2019 fundamental human rights are fulfilled, the scourge of war is ended, all international treaties and laws are maintained and respected, all peoples have a just & prosperous quality of life, and all of our basic human needs are met.

My strongest dessire is the students from all over the world make the UN transformation a reality without predjudice of extrem nationalism or other beliefs which divide civil society instead of unifying humanity under the rule of law.

The United Nations has the greatest potential of any organization in the world for promoting, enhancing and maintaining peace among nations of the world. Thus, all countries who espouse peace should come together to hold a Charter Review Conference and chart a plan for strengthening the UN as an organization in support of peace in the world. Included in the plan would be delineation of unpaid obligations of participant nations and timelines should be proposed for clearing the indebtedness and future responsibility of all nations of the UN.

100 years ago most of the worlds nations were under colonialism and represented by their colonial masters today there are about 260 nations commonwealths and territories and only about 190 of them are in the U.N. There needs to be a regional system of nations like the EU in order to make things more governable The USA was the first nation to do this when Delaware was the first state to sign the US Constitution on December 7 1787 providing the model for a unity of 50 nations/states in one country and it has lasted now for what will be the 221st anniversary of Delaware's signing of the US Constitution December 7th 2008 proving that this is a system that works if it is done right and after that between 1787-1959 The USA grew from 13 to 50 states and this is a model that the UN can follow there are many out there that are against the UN and the New World Order but I think the world is too complicated now without it.
