We, the undersigned Peoples of Planet Earth, hereby commit to join forces with the Global Community in an endeavor to plant and nurture 1 Trillion Trees by the year 2020.

Since the Industrial Revolution, our planet has been stripped of 60% of its forests. The consequences to global climate stability, soil preservation and agriculture, watershed integrity, wildlife, natural beauty and humanity have been devastating.

Earth now faces an unprecedented complex of global threats to human survival for which restored forests are the most dynamic, adaptive and technologically sophisticated solution.

1 Trillion Trees will extract from the atmosphere up to 40 billion tons of CO2 each year, our current annual global emissions - over time, restoring the atmosphere to equilibrium.

Our global initiative will lead to job creation for millions of people while bringing 2 billion acres of presently degraded land back to productive use. 1 Trillion Trees will also provide a sustainable source of food, water, shelter, fuel, medicine, habitat, fertilizer, livestock feed, bio-fuels and other things people need, such as shade, beauty, and spiritual tranquility.

There is no need to wait for the discovery and implementation of more sustainable technologies and policies to prevent a climate catastrophe. We can begin NOW. Like a forest fire in reverse, we envision the Trillion Trees Campaign sweeping across the face of the Earth, greening as it goes.

Finally, we petition the United Nations Environment Programme to expand their current Billion Tree Campaign - Plant for the Planet - to a Trillion Trees Campaign.
