As urban development grows around Baton Rouge, our green spaces start to dwindle. I feel as if most of the developers around Baton Rouge are not concerned about this. I am trying to gain signatures in an attempt to devote a segment of land in the downtown area to a beautiful dog park, no-kill animal shelter, vet and behavior clinic, cafe to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine with your pet and other pet owners, and a day boarding and kennel facility. Our staff will provide constant attention, interaction, and a great deal of playtime with your pets (in other words, they will not be locked up most of the day). This facility will not only serve the needs of downtown residents, but will also provide a great place for pet owners from all over to socialize with their animals and other pet owners. Additionally, this park will help preserve the beauty of downtown. All great cities have beautiful parks in an urban setting--why should we be different? Please show your support by signing the petition. Thank you,Ryan M. Andree

Baton Rouge is growing, and we need more options for pets and their owners. This center is a breath of fresh air.

It is time that Louisiana treat animals with respect. Dog fighting must GO. Puppy Mills must GO. Give homeless animals a chance.
Thanks.

This is highly needed. Especially if we expect our downtown to keep growing. If there is nothing here people will not keep coming here.

This is a fantastic idea and it is really important to provide these kind of facilities as a sign of downtown Baton Rouge's revitalization.

As a pet owner, dog lover, and animal rescuer I feel that Ryan is definitely heading in the right direction with this petition. There are several positive impacts that this facility could create within the community, and now is the time to do it!

I believe this is ideal for EBR and surrounding Parishes. I purchased blankets, 45lb.bag of dog food, big bag of cat food, Christmas stockings tailored for dogs and cats, and a huge bag of treats to bring to the animal shelter/animal control of EBR on Progress Rd. They are A KILL shelter - I expected this and the reason I wanted to give - to the animals - not the organization & now I'm torn. My obligation is to the animals so I will probably do it this once. However, in donating to the ASPCA, they gave me valuable info concerning shelters. The ASPCA WILL NOT SUPPORT OR AFFILIATE THEMSELVES WITH ANY KILL SHELTER.SHELTER KILL POLICIES ARE PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE AND MUST BE DISCLOSED UPON REQUEST. THE ASPCA SAID MOST OF THE NATION'S SHELTERS HAVE BECOME NO KILL SHELTERS BECAUSE THEY NEED THE SUPPORT OF THE ASPCA. I WAS SHOCKED TO LEARN THAT OUR CAPITOL CITY DOES NOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM. I WAS TOLD BY AN EBR ANIMAL CONTROL WORKER THAT THERE ARE SIMPLY TOO MANY PETS FOR THEM TO BE A NO KILL, BUT THEY DO HAVE AN ADOPTION PROGRAM. EBR must get a lot of State/Local government support to continue this otherwise they'd be forced to rely on the ASPCA. I think what you're doing here is absolutely wonderful and I commend you for it. I'll forward your link to obtain additional support. Thanks and good luck - please notify everyone of your success.

As someone who is moving into Baton Rouge from a more rural setting, having a place where I can take my dog and let him be a dog is very important to me. Also, much of nature is disappearing fast, and having a beautiful place in the downtown area where people can still enjoy the beauty of our state is a huge draw for many people. I would love to see this project come to fruition, and myself and my boy would be frequent guests there!
