Government using military aid from USA and Britain spend billions on PR and laundering their name in the capitals of London and New York and care nothing about the population they have drriven into displaced camps to die in poverty and disease. Instead they train and send death squads to maim the population and pretend to be rebels to make the rebels loose support. A ploy to make them die a slow painful death.

True, but nor do many other countries on the council including the United States.Ironically the natural resources in the Congo are what keep our computers, cell phones and GPS systems working. We are all accountable. Let us demand the safest, fairest, and most environmentally sound means by which to let the people of the Republic of Congo supply the world with useful minerals while keeping corrupt interests in other nations and big corporations from "hiring" Uganda and others from being their violent lackeys.

Having Uganda on the UN Security Council is akin to having a poacher in charge of a game reserve. The hands of Uganda's current leaders are drenched in the blood of their compatriots as well as those of citizens of neighbouring countries. Rather than having them represented on the Security Council, Museveni's government should be answering to its crimes in the Hague.

Please remove Uganda from the UN Securities Council until they stop killing their own people in an internal war. We should also stop sending them foreign aid.

Why should we suport another Adolf Hitler, Iosif Vissarionovici Stalin, Saddam Hussein or even an Idi Amin Dada. This mans were not borned criminals, the power that people gave them, made them dictators. Don't give to much power to one man because you may live to regreted. Its a shame, that UN wants to make this dreadfull commitment to an alredy self-made, absolutist and autocratic "country".

I continue to worry about my fellow Ugandans who have been dying for over 20 years in Northern Uganda. I am concerned about Uganda's involvement in Somalia, Congo and Sudan. What a terrible example to take to UN!!

Museveni is a dictator, he is no doubt involved in the Congo-Rwanda conflict. It is the Uganda soldiers responsible for the atrocities in Northern Uganda as well as the Congo. Take note that Rwanda is Museveni's ancestral home Kony is just a cover-up. It is time for Museveni to step down for Uganda, Congo, Rwanda to achieve peace. He is another Mugabe.

Uganda still stand to tell the world what they did to the people of Teso Region, northn eastern Uganda, when they burnt hundreds in a train wagon ,burying of people a live in Bur Coro in Gulu District, killing of Kona Kilak,Cooking of people in A pot in Pader District and ......including , rap, looting among being done by the army . ICC is is not ready to bring those atrocities committed aganist humanity to book, showing that its a blanket court that is not transparent in its ruling. Therefore Uganda doesn't deserve the role in UN security council.Unless its act of Child soldier and the root causes of 22 years Genocide committed in northern Uganda is brought under investigation.

I,like most of your readers will agree that its an outrage that Uganda under the current political leadrship could have been considered for this position of responsibility.Dont however blame Uganda.Blame the thoughtless, arrogant, naive, crazy, insensitive wasters who nominated and voted Uganda to serve. It makes a mockery of what this internatioal body stands for.

How can international communities continue to close their eyes from the truth and reality of the atrocities committed and the suffering of the people of Northern Uganda? How many more lives must be lost for the world to see that the people of northern Uganda have been victims for over 20 years of the reign of the NRM government? Every human being irrespective of their tribal, religious or political affliation deserves protection the government in power! The people of northern Uganda have been denied that right by the NRM government! NO, UGANDA MUST NOT BE ON THE SECURITY COUNCIL.

We have sat and watched for years now how this man Museveni has been given a free hand by the international community. As America's darling and the queen's (England) consort he struts on his little stage, hosting CHOGM, sending troops into Somalia, upholding abstinence (GWB's program)to hold back the AIDS epidemic and an assortment of other actions to please the puppetmaster. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Oxfam and others have reported the extensive human rights abuses for which his government is responsible. In the meantime his country is crumbling to peices and his genocide in the filthy, unspeakably squalid camps of northern Uganda continues. Little wonder this man of no conscience is aspiring to be president of the East African States and a member of the UN Security Council. No matter that this man is a criminal. No matter that he is a master of deception and disinformation, corruption, murder, mayhem and greed. We continue to reward this psychopathis behavior instead of putting him where he really belongs. And oh, by the way, did you know he is the 12th richest man in Africa? Wonder how he got there?????

Uganda needs to answer for its crimes against humanity. The right to sit in the UN is something that should not be given to a country knowingly responsible for so much unnecessary suffering to even their own people.

We plead with the powers that be, Intervene on the side of humanity. We are not asking for anything else from you, extend a hand, a signature of comfort and solace to the afflicted, the down trodden and the innocent dead. Do your bit, make the world a better place. Just allow us to live in peace and pursue our God given opportunities. How much destruction will you inflict on innocent populations in the name of greed and power.

Museveni and Kony connived to kill Acholi. His intention is to destroy the rich Acholi culture by placing the people in camps. Museveni in all these years kept Kony's mother and brothers safely in Buganda. Tell me, was this not a plot? Museveni and his generals plundered and lotted wealth in DRC. They, together with Lubanga and Bemba fueled Lendu/Ema conflict for their own gains. They raped women, maimed and killed many Congolese. Bemba is now in ICC custody, while Museveni is a free man and is to be rewarded with a seat in UN Security Council; thanks to American and British support. Saint world citizens should we reward Museveni and his NRM with this seat? Same if we do it. Uganda under Museveni and NRM does not deserve a seat in the council

Giving uganda a seat on UN security council is inconsequenstial. Uganda is not different from other UN seat holders. UN has been there and done nothing to stop genocide in Rwanda, and now Darfur. If Uganda is guilty of Genocide why has not UN taken action? And if UN must take action against UGANDA, IT SHOULD BEGIN WITH ALL WHO SUPPORTED AND IGNORED GENOCIDE IN RWANDA UN SECURITY COUNCIL INCLUDED. To hold a seat or not to hold is useless as far as human rights protection is concerned. The genocide in Rwanda which happened in the presence of all powers is a sad reminder of the uselessness of UN. David

YEI, Sudan: President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda said Friday that the death of John Garang, the Sudanese rebel leader turned vice president, might have not been an accident and announced that an international inquiry would soon take place to determine the truth. "Some people say accident," said Museveni, whose presidential helicopter was ferrying his friend from Uganda to Sudan on July 30 when it went down on a hillside in a remote area of Sudan. "It may be something else. I am looking at all the options, all the possibilities." Sudanese authorities have assembled a multinational team to determine how the Ugandan military helicopter carrying Garang crashed. The National Transportation Safety Board in Washington has sent a team to participate in the inquiry, which will also include experts from Uganda, Sudan, Kenya, Britain and Russia, which manufactured the helicopter, officials said. Most officials in the region, including an array of rival Sudanese politicians, have said they believe the helicopter crashed because of bad weather. A Today in Africa & Middle East Followers of an ancient faith are caught in Iraq's fault lines Refugees flee Congo fighting Sudan arrests militia chief facing trial local religious leader, Paride Taban, said he spoke to villagers who saw the helicopter in the sky that night and later saw flames. He said he was convinced that the crash was caused by the storm that was raging. Museveni's government has faced criticism in the wake of the crash for a series of potential lapses. Uganda's Civil Aviation Authority typically does not allow helicopters to take off from Entebbe International Airport after 5 p.m., and there is disagreement on whether the helicopter violated that rule. In addition, the same aviation body is supposed to conduct a study of the weather three hours before travel involving a VIP such as Garang, officials say. Ugandan news media have also reported that the helicopter had been serviced recently and that Garang's trip to Sudan was the longest flight it had made since that servicing. But speaking at a memorial service for Garang, who died with 13 others in the crash, Museveni defended the aircraft that he had lent his longtime friend and ally and raised the prospect of foul play. Museveni's remarks, in English, had no immediate effect since most of the thousands of people gathered in Yei to pay tribute to Garang did not understand his statements. "The Big Man stated that the aircraft was in good condition," said Atem Akuien, 32, a local journalist who was swayed by Museveni's comments. "Now we have suspicions. Maybe it was the people in Khartoum." Museveni said the craft was equipped with sophisticated gauges that enabled it to fly at night and in inclement weather. He said he had flown on the very same helicopter, a Russian M1-172 that had been equipped to carry VIP passengers, just half an hour before Garang had boarded it. The helicopter had been functioning fine, Museveni said. "Either the pilots panicked in spite of the plane having good conditions, or there was this side wind, or the instruments didn't work, or there was an external factor," the president said. "The inquiry has to look at all that." Museveni's musings on the possible cause of the accident came as Sudanese leaders were at pains not to raise suspicions among the population that Garang died as a result of foul play. Riots broke out Monday in Khartoum, the capital, and continued all week after followers of Garang accused the Islamist government of orchestrating the death of the rebel-leader-turned-politician to eliminate an opponent. Garang's funeral will take place Saturday in Juba, which has also experienced clashes in the wake of the death.

To reward the present tyranical rulers of Uganda with a seat on the security council is nothing short of dancing on the graves of millions Ugandan and DRC citizens who innocently lost their lives because of Uganda's/Museveni's political and military misadventures. Is that really what former British PM Tony Blair meant when he promised an "ethical foreign policy" towards Africa? That so long as a despot like Museveni still serves their strategic national interests then it will be "business as usaual" without a care in the world about the cost to human life? What a shame, what a shame! If this is what the five permanent members of the security council consider to be civilised behaviour then Osama Bin Laden may well be canonnised as Saint! The "Butcher of the Great Lakes Region" and his blood thirsty henchmen do deserve a seat even on satan's dinner table. How about the UN Security Council? Over to you, I rest my case!

Uganda does not deserve a seat at the UN Security Council given the current govt's Human Rights record over the last 22 yrs both at home and the larger great lakes region. The current leadership should be headed for the opposite direction - the Hague!! Nobody will begrudge them this opportunity!

That we're even petitioning about this issue is absurd. Uganda is led by the most brutal people on the African Continent. The leaders in Uganda have a direct hand in the murder of almost 6 million Africans Luwero - 500,000 Rwanda - 1,000,000 N. Ugandanda - 1,000,000 DR Congo - 4,000,000 Giving Uganda a seat on the UN Security Council is tantamount to resurrecting Adulf Hitler

uganda with Museveni and his thuggery team does not deserve that Noble seat because the country itself is headed for tribal clashes ie baganda against banyoro and banyankole because the banyankole who have amassed wealth have bought every piece of land from poor baganda.
