In the future this catch would cost 150.00 or more, but it cost nothing but fuel, bait and a good time now, make them change this, it is just plain wrong.

ANYONE WHO AGREES WITH THIS, PLEASWE SIGN SO WE CAN HOPEFULLY MAKE A CHANGE, TAKING AWAY THIS OLD PASTIME IS WRONG, MY PARTNERS FATHER WOULD ROLL OVER IN HIS GRAVE IN SHAME IF HE KNEW THIS.

As family who have lived outside of WA for the past 9 years we were very excited to be coming home and introducing our two teenagers to the joys of fishing in Western Australia. Unfortunatley now due the introduction of these money grabbing fees it is not going to happen.

I will just have to get my moneys worth, if I have to pay for a licence to catch what was previously free, its a tax grab, nothing more, fish harder catch more.

The extremely high charge for demersal licence is the wrong way to go to effect change. A fee similar to lobster licence more reasonable. Allocate a number of TAGS per licence with option to purchase more at an increasing rate. The TAG inserted into undersize returned fish and recovered if later caught and returned to Fisheries with a bonus issue for doing so. If a fish is kept the TAG with details returned to fisheries for research info. Bonus draws per month of extra TAGS from those who return kept fish and or fish frames. In other words encourage fishers to do the right thing at the same time collect more information.

i support closure of certain areas to boost breeding stocks also would support a fishing license that would not stop me taking a mate fishing because he did not have a fishing license when deciding to go for a fish at the spur of the moment

Some methods of fishing can be cruel. Especially the way most people fish with rods and hooks. The methods should change. Maybe using nets instead? and with cruelty-free killing methods. Fish are living things just like us. It definitely should not cost so much to go out and fish though. This is just encouraging people to buy their fish from shops where the fish are mostly from overseas and treated even worse. And it is a healthy and enjoyable activity for families. We don't need more people sitting around at home with the obesity crisis we are having. I went fishing when I was younger. We wouldn't have been able to afford it if these licence fees were around.

If its a user pay system then I will with out a doubt fish to bag limits every single time and haul evrything I can to get my value for money. That fly in the face in helping the enviro. At the moment with my kids we fish for a couple of hours then spend the rest of the day cruising, swimming and genrally having quality family time. Once this fee is in place it will be RAPE,PILIGE AND PLUNDER thanks for the incentive Minister!!!!

Fees will be used for more patrol's? Surely they could be better spent, like on restocking fish.

so if all recreational fishermen are going to be slugged $150 each a year to abide by our bag limits, what are the increased license fees for commercial fishermen who are allowed to rape and pillage our ocean????????????? i think your focus is on the wrong fishing sector. you might say that your figures show that they account for a smaller percentage of catches(highly doubt it), but do your figures include the wastage of commercial fishermen, the many fish left dead floating behind them(doubt that too)

Given that there are constant reports in Western Australian newspapers of shore based anglers targeting and catching demersal fin fish such as pink snapper, why is it only boat anglers are being discriminated against with the introduction of proposed new fishing licences and fees? Shore based anglers may only be a small proportion of the angling fraternity but why should they be exempt form paying fees and licences for catching the same species?

If they think gps and fish finders are the cause of the problem, why not put a ban on those ? I still believe, that it is the commercial fishing industry that is the problem. The ministers dont want to cut them back too much, as they wont be able to get their favorite seafood at their fancy restaurants. The whole fee system is flawed ,as fishing is weather dependant and quite often a non planned event. So i want to go fishing , now i can only ask the friends that have a license . I am camping at Hamlin bay,(no phone or internet) and have friends rock up for the weekend without notice and i would like to take them fishing in the boat ,i cant unless they have a license ,stupid. Would it not be better, to have to buy a certain size license for boats .Say if i want to be able to take 4 people in my boat then it would be xx amount for year ect and make the license more expensive relative to the value of the boat .That way a person with a little 10 foot tinny is not paying the same as a person with a $100,000 dollar boat.

how much money do you bastards want.you have just greatly increased boat registrations and now on top of that you want me to fork out another $450 a year so that i can take my family out fishing. the stupid thing about this is how does all this money protect fish stocks??if you really want to protect fish stocks start policing it properly and cut out professional netting entirely.the current recreational regulations are more than capable of sustaining stocks, its just that no one is policing it.i have fished my local waters at least once a month over the past 4 years and have never been stopped to have my catch checked, the only thing i have been stopped for is to check my safety gear(once).it doesnt matter what regs you put in place or how much money you make people pay, if you arent going to police them, they will make stuff all difference, so stop trying to bleed the average family of their fun and their money and start policing the current regs with hefty fines for any prick doing the wrong thing(make these bastards pay, not average joe and his family). theirs no easy fix that money can buy so get off your fat lazy arses and do what needs to be done. Us fishing folk want to protect the stocks too, but what your proposing is blatant robbery.the increase in boat registrations(89000 boat owners at a MINIMUM increase of $40 for 4m boat is $3.56million) should cover a fair few fisheries officers, so i really dont see the need for a fishing license.(89000 boat owners, plus a fishing buddy each, at $150 a head per year, is $26.7MILLION) imagine what the real figures are with many families of four plus the relly's and friends who will have to pay a day license when they visit.Mr Moore, if this isnt revenue raising, i would hate to see what is!!!

we are a family of 4 two adults to teenagers over 16. we only get sunday morning to go fishing and now we will not even be able to get that as the cost for this struggling family will be just to much now. So thank you mr Moore for putting a stop to our only family activity and the boat will sit in the back yard , This means also that well will not be filling it up at $180.00 a trip , wont be buying bait at $40.00 a trip or any more tackle around $2000.00 a year putting a load also on this industry . Shame on you mr Moore for being so greedy with your fees that small bussiness will close down & family times have gone. I do not mind paying a fee of the $30.00 eachper year but over $700 a year GREED thats what it is.

The Fisheries Minister, has committed Political Suicide, if he intends to legislate this announcement. In fact, if this petition gathers anough momentum, it could well bring down a government. If the Minister is serious about protecting current fishstock levels, perhaps a fishery closure, say from the begining of winter, until January the following year. Why, thats when some of the worst weather hits the coast, the other thing, the "knock on effect" for all assocaietd industries, no sales of boats new and used, no sales of GPS, Plotters, Echo Sounders, Fishing Tackle sales take a big nose dive and the recreational boating and fishing industry will collapse Mr Moore, in your infinite wisdom, you are killing the tourist industry as well, as these proposals, will deter others from interstate to come to WA. In fact these proposals are almost identical to the Common Fishery Policy that has been implemented to protect fishstocks in the North Sea and North East Atlantic, which as you may imagine, has prooved to be the biggest "balls up" in the European Fishing Industry, since the inception of the European Union. Mr Moore do not repeat, the Stuff Up of The EU.

As a person that has saved my arse to get the dream boat i wanted for now and the future, so my kids can enjoy the recreational activity of fishing/diving . When i informed my children that this policy is starting in October the response was Dad why did you by that boat because we will not be able to afford to come fishing into the future .I agree totally in protecting the fish stocks , so cannot see why the whole population of fishers have to pay an ever inflated price to enjoy what many families have used as (special family time ).Whats wrong with the single fee per yr per boat of $100 so the family can still enjoy (family time) and watch the kids and his mates catch there first fish. Obviosly forgotten what it is spending time with family in Australia not taking overseas holidays

I Agree that we need to preserve fish stocks and MAYBE introduce a fishing license. However the fees associated with this are astronomically high. The license fee should be changed to per boat rather than per angler. In my opinion this is just a revenue raising scheme that as usual offers no value to any body. Let a lone preserves fish stocks

Norman Moore you have got this very very wrong. If you where committed to saving our very special fishery here in West Australia you would stop and listen to some of the people who have fished WA waters for 40 or more years. If you are really serious and wish to lower the catch of these 5 vulnerable species, lowering the bag limits to 1 of each of these 5 species per angler and introduce a boat limit of 2 of each species when there are more than two people on board the boat. Also if a fish ban for two months is going to work, it has to be a complete blanket ban across the whole fishing sector, and that includes Recreational, Professionals with their murdering nets and Charter Operators who fish the spawning grounds along with the Pros. It is so simple and there wouldn't be any need for this ridiculous and unnecessary tax grab. When is the next election ?????????

i am discusted with this desision. as a 17 year old kid and have always practiced sustainable fishing living by the ocean, fishing is my life, but as a student earning 60 dollars a week im afraid these rules will force me away from doing what i love. i dont know what im going to do without fishing.

This government has got to wake up, a lot of people are not happy about this tax, the effect it is going to have on the coastal towns that rely on fishing & tourism, let alone the cost to just go fishing & enjoy yourself we can all make a difference & make these people think twice about this.

My boat is what has kept our family as one. You are now trying to take that away from my family by pricing us out of a days fishing. More kids on the streets more unemployment what are you thinking. This will flow on to businesses like tackle shops chandelery shops marine mechanics fishing clubs etc.

The V5 ban was the best, how the heck can you justify this disgusting licensing fee when its going to hit the hip pocket of the family unit, Unfortunately I didn't vote for he Liberals the "claytons Government," nd I'm now suffering, my kids and grandkids can't come fishing with us anymore, as we can't afford the licensing fees, you Mr Moore are going to suffer at the ballot box remember their are 600,000 fisher folk. To let the professionals fish in the 2 month ban is disgusting, murder when the so called fish are breeding, sheer murder. Good bye Mr Moore you are gone at the next election. 100 Fisheries Officers to controll 12,500 miles of coast line, what a joke, try and catch us all Mr Moore "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE."

This TAX is just out of control!!! why should i have to pay to have a fish for leisure?? If you want to make an impact on fish stocks why dont you police boat ramps and popular fishing spots more heavily and raise fines for taking to many or undersized fish???? Now instead of being able to have a quiet fish on the weekend to unwind, i have to make sure i can afford it now, family budgets are tighter than ever now and you wankers just make it even harder.
