I believe that we all should hold these huge supermarkets to account for their actions. They are destroying our communities by forcing their suppliers to cut costs. This is haing an awful effect on community relations

I stopped buying meat from a Supermarket some time ago after concluding that I wanted much more information about the provenance of the product and treatment of animals. This campaign confirms my worst fears.

Disappointed with large reputable firm such as this behaving in this way.

Food safety labeling is becoming important as environmental issues are no longer just fashionable. The meat industry must take care to vanguard all of its procedures as it prepares (possibly) to comprehensively join the organic revolution.

I beleive that a shop like Marks & Spencer should ensure that all of the products it sells are from reputable sources where the treatment of workers is of the highest standard.I also beleive that this store should be buying it's meat products from the U.K.to support our farmers & especially local producers. This would also ensure a lower carbon footprint.

Dear Mr.Rose
If your Company is to maintain credibility as an ethical and quality driven retailer, and if Business in the Community is not to be identified as simply a PR manoeuvre, then you must meet the concerns raised by Unite's campaign, and insist on ethical and quality treatment of employees by your contractors, honest treatment of your customers by informing them clearly about what they're buying, and ensuring the meat you supply has been reared, slaughtered and processed in a humane and high quality manner.

When we in the developed world are so lucky to live how we do, we should not rely on other people's suffering to sustain our extravagant lifestyles. But we can't make informed decisions about which goods and services to buy unless you, the retailers, provide us with the necessary information.

I think it is totally wrong how M and s allows it,s suppliers to discriminate amongst it,s workers. I think the two tier system is grossly unfair to agency workers most of them migrants. It can also cause community disharmony which can be dangerous. I also believe a supposedly ethical company like Mand S should make it,s labelling much more transparent. The customer should be informed how the animal was treated before slaughter, how humanely it was killed, how far it travelled, if from overseas, and under what conditions. The afore mentioned items are the least we should expect from a respectable company like Mand S.
