Urge USDA to Expand Protection of Downed Farm Animals

"Downers" are animals that have become too sick, injured or disabled to stand and move on their own. Cattle are required to be humanely euthanized in this condition; however, downed pigs, goats and sheep may still be slaughtered. They are often given electric shocks, kicked, dragged, thrown, beaten and whatever it takes to get them to the killing floor. The USDA is considering including these animals in the protections currently extended to cattle after receiving a petition from Farm Sanctuary and their supporters, and have asked for public comments on the issue. Please sign this petition urging the USDA to expand their policy to include pigs, goats, sheep and other farm animals!

We the undersigned urge you to please expand your current policy on downed farm animals protecting cattle to also include pigs, goats, sheep and other farm animals. These animals also need your help. When they become too sick or disabled to stand and move on their own, they are often prodded with electric shocks, kicked, beaten, dragged or thrown to get them to the slaughterhouse. We thank you for considering this change based on recent petitions received from Farm Sanctuary and urge you to also consider the concern voiced by the undersigned of this petition. Please require humane euthanasia of all downed farm animals as is currently required for downed cows.

Thank you in advance for your compassionate decision.
