Urgent prevention of an unnecessary euthanization.

Thank you to everyone who signed my petition.  Here is an update on Timber and what we are currently facing in our County and in our State.

Timber, a 1 1/2 year old Siberian Husky Hybrid, was put down on October 4th under the order of the Haywood County Health Department, who was acting on old, outdated laws that did not give Timber a chance.  Essentially, Timber was euthenized to keep the 1 1/2 year old child from having to take rabies shots.  However, we have done a lot of research and have found that this is truly unnecessary as the CDC in Atlanta states that the child should have already been given the shots as a precaution and Timber should have been held for 30 days at the owner's expense to be observed for any signs of rabies.
However, the County and State laws in North Carolina only allow for a ten day period, provided the animal is a dog; it does not pertain to wolves or wolf hybrids or wolf mixes.  Timber was only given 9 days.
Please continue to sign our petition and pass it around to everyone you know.  We are going to take this petition to the next meeting of the County Commissioners and challenge them to change the laws so that innocent little animals are not sacrificed for the sake of fear and ignorance.
Thank you for caring, sharing and helping us.  The fight isn't over; it's just begun.
