U.S. Department of Peace Petition

Target:
Congressman John Yarmuth, Senator Mitch McConnell
There is currently a bill before Congress to establish a United States Department of Peace. This historic measure will augment our current problem-solving modalities, providing practical, nonviolent solutions to the problems of domestic and international conflict. The legislation will pass from bill to law under one condition: that a wave of citizen interest rise up from the American people and make itself heard in the halls of Congress.

The purpose of this petition is to let Congressman John Yarmuth and Senator Mitch McConnell know that we want their support for legislation to create a cabinet level U.S. Department of Peace.

It is well past the time that our nation establish a Department of Peace at the Presidential Cabinet level to help balance the scales of aggression and war within our own society and governmental capabilities. It is essential to the survival of all nations that solutions be sought for differences, rather than attempts to eliminate people. Until we recognize and acknowledge the value of all people, then we will not know our own value on this planet.

To the elected representatives of the United States: For to long we have been mislead by you. These days are coming to an end. We will no longer stand idle and allow the military-industrial complex to determine the course of our foreign policy. A day of reckoning is at hand. Beware politician who votes for war with defense contracts on his mind and defense contractors in his company. We have been slow to figure your game out , but we are coming to pace. So remember this elected representative when you next go to vote to vote for war. It is the brother, the son, the sister, the daughter, the father, the mother, the friend, the lover that you send to die. Let this be on your mind for all your time spent pondering pushing through the next defense contract and the next war. From a concerned citizen, Chris Saffran Louisville KY

It seems to me that we could make a greater diplomatic impact if we trained or diplomats.

Given the many armed conflicts occurring through the world, we now need more than ever the insights and tools that a Department of Peace can provide. Instituting such a Department would also demonstrate to the world our commitment to finding peaceful solutions to the world's problems.

The U.S. Department of Peace would be an excellent addition to our United States Government. In fact, I would be very honored to be the first or one of the first employee's to work there. I could do filing, archiving, clerical, media work to promote and announce it etc., and do anything necessary to help get it and help it stay on it's feet. I am good at expediting also. May the Congress pass this bill so we can all have a better chance of Peace in the United States of America and beyond! ~*~*~*~P.S. As far as crime......Always be impartial, separate your personal feelings from your professional feelings, keep principles in the forefront, be diplomatic and show sensitivity to all parties as I always do and will continue to do. With these rules..................I've prevented & stalled riots and broke up many fights in the street & various other locations and otherwise without a scratch on my body!~~~~~~~Respectfully and Sincerely, Ms. Victoria Mary Stong / Humanitarian, R&B Singer, Animal Rights, Civil Rights and Community Activist-Well Seasoned!

My brothers, I have been on two deployments to Iraq and absolutely know the need for this commitment to make a Department of Peace. But the Department of Peace means absolutely nothing without a personal committment to nonviolence and peace. So if my message is to meet with your eyes, let the message be that a Department of Peace is a wonderful step towards a vision. But even more, how you conduct your thoughts, words and actions on a daily basis meane so much more. But if you do this, yuo will find DOP part of your everyday path. My best wishes to you and those around you. You effect everyone of us. My love and thoughts, Dennis Welch

As long as any of us have been alive, we speak of the need for peaceful solutions to problems and conflict whether they be domestic, racial, cultural, national, or global. Conflict seems to be winning. Let's take a step forward to create a new department with leadership that provides hope for peace. If we, the U.S., are the true leaders of the world, let's choose to lead in this direction. Peace is a choice.
